Raider Update
A Weekly eNewsletter from Hastings Public Schools
Message from the Superintendent
Good afternoon Raider Families,
It looks like the cold weather is here to stay for a while. Weather permitting, elementary students will continue to be outside for recess, and the bus stops and walks can get chilly. If your students are in need of warm clothing, please reach out to Hastings Family Service.
This is a short week, with a longer break. Please remember there is no school on Monday, November 29th. Because of the short week, there will not be a Raider update next weekend.
This week saw another increase in COVID case numbers. The county was up to 89.1 per 10,000, over 14 days, while the district was up to 126.3. The weekly positive case count was 59, broken down by building below:
HS - 18 students
MS - 17 students, 1 Staff
Elementary - 25 students, 5 staff
Tilden - 2 students
Please note that if you want to have test kits on hand, you can pre-order at Vault. Also, if you are in need of vaccination information, it can be found here.

HHS November Rotary Student of the Month
We are pleased to announce that HHS senior Taylor McCoy has been selected as the Hastings Rotary Student of the Month for November 2021! Taylor was recognized at the November 11 Hastings Rotary Club meeting.
Taylor's nominator had this to share about Taylor:
I met Taylor as a peer tutor, a program that I have advised for the past 10 years. She was a dedicated tutor her sophomore year and I recognized her for her sense of responsibility and commitment, which led me to ask her to be the leader of Peer Tutors her junior year. Best decision of my life! She took the program and completely redesigned how we track students, log peer tutor hours, keep data/records, etc. She revolutionized the process and got everything in a digital format. When the pandemic hit, Taylor went into problem-solving mode, and immediately set up a zoom format for helping students virtually. She developed a system for students to request a tutor online, and then she personally would connect them with the tutor that would be the best fit for their needs.
This year, Taylor designed a whole new application process and continues to look for the most effective ways to reach students. She mentors the new tutors, follows up on everything, and responds immediately to every request I have of her! She is, by far, the person you want as your right-hand woman. She has made such an amazing impact on the Peer Tutoring program, and these improvements will help not only today's students but the future of the whole program.
I will miss her so much when she graduates, but appreciate her dedication to the program these past 3 years more than she will ever know.
