Welcome Back Pirates!

We are excited to begin a new semester and year at Stone Mountain High School! We are so proud of how our students transitioned back to school during the first semester. Most of our students adjusted well. We still have work to do in assisting some who need further academic and/or behavioral supports to be more successful this second semester. We are identifying additional resources and supports for these students and will be reaching out to parents to inform them soon.

As you may be aware, we will begin this new semester virtually this week beginning January 5. Students will identify their teachers by using Infinite Campus and will use the links to their teachers' classes on Wednesday. The links will be placed on our school website Tuesday and we will email you all when they are there. Please see below for this week's schedule. As of Monday, January 3, we will resume in-person instruction on Monday, January 10. If anything changes, we will inform you.

We will strive to improve communication on our end to inform parents proactively when we notice your students struggling with academic, behavior, or attendance issues. Please feel free to reach out to us when you have any questions or concerns. If you do not get a response within 24 hours, please contact me directly at michael_costa@dekalbschoolsga.org. We look forward to a great 2022!

Need a Chromebook or Wifi Hotspot?

Chromebooks can be picked up between 1-4 pm January 3-7. If you need to get one at an earlier time, please reach out to Assistant Principal Bowers at samone_bowers@dekalbschoolsga.org. If your student needs a WiFi Hotspot, please email Dr. Bowers.

Updated Mask Guidance

With updated CDC guidance, we would like to encourage all students to wear N95 or KN95 masks if available. If you have surgical masks, we encourage students to wear two. If they have only a cloth mask, we would encourage students to wear a surgical mask underneath. Students wearing gaiters or bandanas will be provided an alternate mask. Please see the examples below. Together, working as one, we can mitigate the spread of COVID.

Cognia Parent and Community Survey

Parents, please assist us by completing the survey by clicking here. This survey provides feedback for us on how we can improve our school. Thank you.

Coffee with Costa

Every 3rd Monday of each month you may meet with Principal Costa to share concerns, ask questions, or simply chat about all things Stone Mountain and your students. You can come to the school for coffee or join us online by clicking here. Thanks to the parents that came today for sharing their thoughts and ideas.

To Be Great, Be Here By 8

Parents, please assist us by bringing your students to school on time. We have dozens of students who are late to 1st period specifically. All students should be in their seats in 1st period by 8:10 am. Please have students at school by 8:00 am so they can arrive on time. All students reporting after 8:30 must be signed in by a parent. We hope this increases our daily attendance and curtails our tardies. Thank you parents for your efforts in getting our students here and on time!

Parent and Family Engagement

Please go to our school website, click Parents, and review our School and Family Compact. We need your electronic signature signifying you have viewed the compact. While there, please feel review of Parent and family Engagement Calendar of Events and other resources which provide more information about what is currently happening here at Stone Mountain High School. We hope our website provides transparency and opportunities for continued two-way communication between our school and your households.

Backpack/Bookbag rule- Thank You!

Thank you parents for your flexibility with the backpack policy. Our students are bringing appropriate bags (clear or mesh) overall and it is thanks to you. As a result of recent events, it is even more important that students do not bring bookbags for safety reasons. Parents will need to collect any confiscated bags from school as we will not be giving them back to students for them to bring them the next day. Thank you for your efforts in supporting the safety of our students!
