HES Shark Scoop
February 10, 2023
From Principal Cutone
Dear HES Families,
Thank you for continuing to support your children and each other as our community grieves the loss of Kyi Bourne. We know that we will continue to cycle through the stages of grief over the next weeks and months. The process of grieving is not linear, and it does not look the same on any two people. This is a time for us all to give grace, to love, and to accept.
One message that we shared with students this week was that it is important to take breaks from feeling sad and to engage in activities that distract and bring us joy. Our hearts were all filled on Wednesday when we had a musical treat presented by Jazz in the Schools. Bart Weisman from Orleans was on drums, Fred Boyle from South Yarmouth was on piano, and Rich Hill from East Falmouth played bass. The trio taught students about the history of jazz and the different styles of jazz music. Their performance was funded by the Provincetown Jazz Festival.
Another highlight was a virtual visit to our third graders by Jacqueline Briggs Martin, author of Snowflake Bentley and other children’s books. Our young writers were entertained and inspired!
The week culminated in our “Love to the Rescue” to celebrate the life of Kyi and our 100th day of school. We took another school wide walk this morning as part of our self care. HES is a sea of red, as our hearts are simultaneously broken with grief and filled with hope, love, and joy.
I wish you a peaceful weekend.
My best,
Christie

Meu melhor,
Christie
