LANGUAGE! Bridges—The program of 15 sequential lesson introduces students to the six components of instruction for LANGUAGE! Each of the building blocks deals with increasingly more complex demands of language literacy learning. Not every lesson has content specific focus concepts, but the program builds upon previously taught skills students have mastered and incorporates this with new learning.

Content Focus: September 24-28:
Phonemic Awareness and Phonics:
· Students will review categories of sounds, vowels, and consonants.
Word Recognition and Spelling:
· Students will read syllables with long vowel sounds; silent e VCe rule
Vocabulary and Morphology:

Speaking and Writing:
· Students will evaluate parts of a sentence.

Phonemic Awareness and Phonics:
· Students will demonstrate proficiency in consonant and vowel sounds.
Word Recognition and Spelling:
· Students will understand the difference between open and closed syllables and an open syllable represents the long vowel sound. Identify closed syllables and words with closed syllables.
Vocabulary and Morphology:
Listening and Reading Comprehension:
Speaking and Writing:
· Students will create and expand base sentences. Understand the noun and verb (subject and predicate) parts of a sentence. Combine sentences to build better sentences.
Academic Strategies: Decode multisyllabic words and increase reading rate (fluency)
Important Concepts for Learning: September 24-27
Students will continue to learn and implement the strategy to decode multisyllabic words.
· Students can blend word parts into words.
· Students will identify vowels and letter combinations to form words.
· Students will read parts of real words that contain familiar words.
· Students will recognize mispronunciation of words based upon the vowel or vowel patterns which they have marked.
· Students will pronounce and identify the prefixes: in-, im-, and com-.
Foundational ELA Level A: Developing fluency in reading individual words.
Students are working on decoding and phonics skills and building on using high frequency words in their writing.
· Students can identify all five short vowel sounds.
· Students can identify 14 high frequency heart words (words they must recognize by sight).
· Students can read and spell closed syllable words with the short u and e.
· Students are working on rhyming words.
· Students will work on short vowel sounds with digraphs (th, ch, sh, and ck.
