46er Running Challenge- A family running together and raising money for books

Middle School student, Colin Francis and his mother, Kelsey, have been running together a lot. While running has been an important part of their relationship, they are finding they need it more now. Without the typical opportunities to race, they decided to make their own version of a 46er challenge. Instead of hiking the 46 Adirondack High Peaks, their goal is to complete 46 runs of 3 miles each, for a total of 138 miles.

Rather than run solely for their physical and mental health, they decided to do it for a worthy cause. For every mile they run, they are raising funds to purchase gift certificates to their favorite bookstore: The Bookstore Plus! The gift certificates will be distributed to kids as a part of the Backpack Food Program at Lake Placid Central School.

If you would like to donate per mile (10 cents, 25 cents, etc) or one flat dollar amount in order to support this cause, simply call The Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid at 518-523-2950 by May 15th and tell Sarah or Marc you'd like to donate to the 46er Challenge.

Currently, there are 194 students enrolled in Lake Placid's program, so their goal is to raise enough money to provide a $10.00 gift certificate to each child. That means their fundraising goal is $1,940!

Childcare for "Essential Workers"

We know that the COVID-19 crisis and closing of school has caused many disruptions for our families, particularly related to finding adequate childcare. We are currently working with the FEH BOCES to assist families of essential health care workers and first responders to find open childcare placements with local county and current licensed daycare providers. Essential health care workers may include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, LPNs, nurse assistants, or lab personnel. First responders may include paramedics, EMTs, police officers, and firefighters. If you are an essential health care worker or first responder and need assistance with childcare, please call 518-483-6420 option 9, or send an email to childcare@mail.fehb.org

Student Work Permits

At this time, student work permits are still able to be administered. If your child needs working papers or is in need of an updated card, please email Mrs. Taylor (ktaylor@lpcsd.org) or Mrs. Mayberry (pmayberry@lpcsd.org), or call 518-524-2474.

Transcending Social Distance: LPMHS Art Gallery
