46er Running Challenge- A family running together and raising money for books
Rather than run solely for their physical and mental health, they decided to do it for a worthy cause. For every mile they run, they are raising funds to purchase gift certificates to their favorite bookstore: The Bookstore Plus! The gift certificates will be distributed to kids as a part of the Backpack Food Program at Lake Placid Central School.
If you would like to donate per mile (10 cents, 25 cents, etc) or one flat dollar amount in order to support this cause, simply call The Bookstore Plus in Lake Placid at 518-523-2950 by May 15th and tell Sarah or Marc you'd like to donate to the 46er Challenge.
Currently, there are 194 students enrolled in Lake Placid's program, so their goal is to raise enough money to provide a $10.00 gift certificate to each child. That means their fundraising goal is $1,940!
Parent Tech Hour on Tuesdays
We know how tough it is to take on the task of helping and monitoring your child’s online learning, especially with learning the technology that comes with it. We hope to ease some of your burdens by offering a Parent Tech Hour on Tuesdays from 11:00 – 12:00 on Zoom with Ms. Lindsay, MS Principal, and Ms. Patenaude, MHS Librarian, where you can ask any questions you may have. Anything from how to turn in an assignment to learning how to navigate a new website, we are here for you. If you're not available during this time, feel free to contact us to set up an appointment.

Lunchtime Live at The Wild Center
Lunchtime Live is bringing The Wild Center to families every Monday – Friday at 12pm. Wild Center educators and animal care staff will be sharing animal encounters, behind-the-scenes looks, projects, and activities you can do in your own backyard. Lunchtime Live can be viewed live on The Wild Center Facebook Page or on our website (https://www.wildcenter.org/digital/lunchtimelive/). Even if families can’t tune in live, archived episodes can be found on the site, to view anytime. More digital content, including a Virtual Visit (https://www.wildcenter.org/virtual-visit), which allows users to “walk” from exhibit to exhibit, and the Wild Content Hub (https://www.wildcenter.org/wild-content-hub/) are also available for those looking for a digital Wild Center experience.
Childcare for "Essential Workers"
We know that the COVID-19 crisis and closing of school has caused many disruptions for our families, particularly related to finding adequate childcare. We are currently working with the FEH BOCES to assist families of essential health care workers and first responders to find open childcare placements with local county and current licensed daycare providers. Essential health care workers may include physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, LPNs, nurse assistants, or lab personnel. First responders may include paramedics, EMTs, police officers, and firefighters. If you are an essential health care worker or first responder and need assistance with childcare, please call 518-483-6420 option 9, or send an email to childcare@mail.fehb.org
