Shepard News & Notes
June 8, 2018
Hello Shepard Families:
Semester report cards will be posted on Family Access at approximately 3:00pm today. You will be able to log into Family Access, click on the “ReportCard/Progress Report” tab on the left navigation bar, and download the report. We hope that you will find an opportunity to have positive discussions about your child’s overall academic experience. Honor roll certificates will be posted on Family Access in approximately one to two weeks.
Below are some reminders regarding our grading and reporting practices. I hope it helps you as you review your child’s report card and continue to promote his or her growth throughout the year.
Teacher Comments
At the ends of quarters 1 and 3, teachers provide personalized comments for all courses EXCEPT practical arts (Art, CMA, Music, Instrumental Music, and STEM). It is our hope that providing personalized feedback at quarters 1 and 3 is helpful as students work toward displaying mastery at the end of each semester. Practical arts courses will provide personalized comments at quarters 2 and 4 because they do not meet with students as often due to the A/B schedule rotation.
Honor Roll
There will be two honor rolls that students can achieve at the end of each semester:
- Academic Honor Roll: Students earn this merit when they receive all 3s and 4s in the academic areas on their report card.
- Habits of Success Honor Roll: Students are named to this honor roll when they receive all 3s on the Habits of Success area of their report card.
Students are eligible to be recognized on both honor rolls.
Please contact Cathy Kedjidjian (ckedjidjian@dps109.org) if you have any questions about Family Access. If you have questions about a grade your child receives, please contact your child’s teachers. If you have questions about standards-based learning, please feel free to reach out to me or any of your child's teachers.
Warm Regards,
John
1st/FINAL Posting - Optimist Club Student of the Quarter
Each quarter, the Optimist Club of Deerfield--a volunteer organization that seeks to promote patriotism, good citizenship, and a belief in giving to others--recognizes 3 students from each grade level. These students have demonstrated good citizenship, perseverance, and service to others. The Shepard staff nominated students to receive this award, and then voted on the top three most deserving students at each grade level.
This award is also shared with the staff member each student felt made the biggest difference for them during first quarter. These pictures will proudly be displayed in the center award board in our hall of honor. Please join me in congratulating our students and teachers!
6th Grade:
Marisa B. who selected to share the award with Ms. Sustich.

3rd/FINAL Posting - District Fees
Dear Families of 2018-2019 Students,
There is still plenty of time left in this school year, but it’s also time to look ahead to next year!
District fees for the 2018-2019 school year now are payable online throughFamily Access. They are due on July 1. Avoid the late fee of $25 per family and pay before the deadline. If you have an outstanding balance for the current school year for any of your children, please pay those fees as soon as possible.
I am begging you: read this fee letter thoroughly. It has so much important (and, you have to admit, incredibly well written) information for all families - including yours!
You can always find information about fees, including fee waivers, on the Fee Information page of the website.
Please review the Family Access User Guide with step-by-step online payment instructions so you can quickly and securely pay your fees using a credit card. A few specific notes:
- Incoming kindergarten and preschool families: You now can log into Family Access with the login information emailed to your after you registered! The email came from do.not.reply@dps109.org with the subject "Family Access Account Information."
- Middle school families: Your incidental fees are payable now. Some are mandatory and have been assigned to your child's account. Others are optional and can be added to your account. Please read this detailed information about incidental fees.
- Families of parents in separate households: Fees will appear only in the Family Access account of the parent who is the primary payor.
A note to all families: You will see inactive students in Family Access - including District 109 graduates of all ages! This allows our incoming families to access the system to pay their fees and ensure we have the correct emergency and contact information for them. So, if you have a child in high school (or beyond!), you will see his or her name pop up now, until we roll over the system for the new school year. Don't worry - there are no fees assigned to them!
Please contact me if you have any questions about Family Access. If you have questions about fee waivers, contact Kelly Mitchell.
Sincerely,
Cathy Kedjidjian
