North Glendale Family Update
September 27, 2020
Good morning!
As you can imagine, I have had many families email or call and ask if/when we are returning to school. I know many of are anxious to safely return to school!
As shared in this week's e-Spotlight, As we continue to see decreases in the spread of COVID 19, our primary focus is creating a phased-in approach to return to in-person learning with continued safety measures in place. KSD has been working with K-5 teachers, staff members, and administrators to develop a plan for our elementary schools to bring to the Board of Education for approval during the Board meeting on Monday, September 28.
All Board meetings are conducted virtually via a webinar and can be found at kirkwoodschools.org/virtualboe. Our webinar license only covers 1,000 viewers, however, we also stream the board meetings live on the Kirkwood School District’s YouTube Channel. Link.
The District will send out information to all families and staff members immediately after the vote by the Board of Education. Again, the Board meeting is TOMORROW, September 28 at 7:00 pm.
I will be in communication with NG families soon after the decision, and will keep in regular communication with you, probably outside of, and including, our Sunday updates. I would rather over communicate than not share the information in a timely manner.
Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or if we can provide your family any support.
Please reach out if I can be of service and have a great week!

iPad Need Frequent Charging? Here's Why! Tips from Mrs. McDonald
Yes, your child’s iPad battery is draining faster, and that’s to be expected.
Here’s why.
Video conferencing takes up quite a bit of processing power from the iPad. In years past a student could start the day at 50% and would be able to get through a day or two in a non-remote learning setting. Now, with structured Zoom meetings and heavy use of the iPad, students can start the day at 100% and be down below 50% at 1:00 p.m., or feel they need to charge mid-day. This is normal and to be expected.
Even as students are charging the iPad during use, the charging speed is slow because the student is using the iPad while it’s charging, even while Zooming. So it’s crucial, to start the day at 100%. If something doesn’t seem quite right, I am always happy to help troubleshoot battery and charging issues with the iPad. (Please see the illustration provided below for example).
If you would like to check out your own child’s settings, this report can be found in Settings>Battery.
Other tips that can help battery life are:
-Dim the screen or turn on Auto-Brightness when in use.
-Settings>Display 7 Brightness>Auto-lock to 2 minutes.
