K-2 Wing Newsletter
Week of Nov. 30-Dec. 4, 2015
What's New?
As you may have noticed, the leadership team has been busy this week working with Ms. Gittens. One of her concerns is that Atlanta Heights has been too relaxed with the "NHA Way." That being said, there are a few things we can do to tighten things up.
1- Remember to CHAMP out each activity.
2- Reinforce cafeteria, hallway and bathroom expectations.
3- Use the old TOPS strategies such as SLANT
4- Keep your room clean and clutter-free. Hold your students accountable for helping you keep your room neat and orderly.
5- Uniforms. If a student comes to school out of uniform, contact the family to see if a change of clothing can be provided. If not, inform the parents the student will be excluded from any non-academic activities for the day.
6- Keep current student work posted in the classroom.
These are not new expectations for any of us. We need to ensure we continue reinforcing our expectations. When we relax on these types of things, the students' behavior relaxes and tends to get out of control as well. You've worked hard to build a positive culture in our wing so far this year. Do not let your hard work go to waste!
New Weekly Planning Schedule
Beginning after the Thanksgiving break, we will be following a new weekly planning schedule school-wide. It is as follows:
Monday: Deans share news from the weekly leadership team meetings. This should not take more than 15 minutes. This is a time for you to also ask any questions. On weeks that I have limited information, I will email you or put it in the newsletter. You will be required to sign that you have read the shared information.
Tuesday: Team Data Meetings: Every teacher is to bring their data from the previous week to this meeting. A new data tracker will be used. (See the explanation below). After this data meeting, your data trackers are required to be uploaded to TKES prior to Friday a.m.
Wednesday: Plan on your own
Thursday: Professional Development with your Dean
Friday: Plan on your own.
Data Trackers: Good news! You will no longer be required to email me your data each week. You will however, be required to complete a new form (email is forth coming with the template and a sample) and bring it completed to your Tuesday data meeting. Many of you have used the form before. We used it briefly last year (grouping your students by their scores and creating a plan of action). The most important piece of the tracker is the plan of action. Please pay special attention to the plans of action on the sample.
