Safeguarding, Prevent and Wellbeing
Part 2 - A guide for staff at Epping Forest College
Introduction
At Epping Forest College, we all recognise the importance of keeping our students safe during their time here. There are a number of policies available on ERIC with detailed information on our safeguarding process, Designated Lead and relevant Safeguarding Co-ordinators.
The Learning Lounge has gathered some useful resources, in line with the Youth Worker team, to provide staff (and students!) with a sample range of suitable resources for awareness, tutorials, information and valuable CPD training.
Our key students vary in age from 14-19 but it's important to remember that 14-16 years olds require a different level of child protection and support from young adults of 16-18 and new adults aged 18 and older.

PREVENTING Extremism and Radicalisation at EFC

As children and young people grow and become more independent, it is not unusual for them to take risks, explore new things and push boundaries. Teenage years are often a time when young people will be searching for answers to questions about identity, faith and belonging, as well as looking for adventure and excitement.
This can mean that they are particularly vulnerable to extremist groups, who may claim to offer answers, as well as identity and a strong social network. And because they know young people are vulnerable, extremist groups often target them using the internet and social media to spread their ideology. There have been a number of tragic examples where young people have been misled by extremist groups, with some travelling to Syria and others becoming involved in hate crimes against minority groups.
The purpose of the website "Educate Against Hate" is to provide practical advice and support to help all individuals with an interest in keeping children safe from the dangers of extremism. The site has been created by the Department for Education and the Home Office, and is fully endorsed.
