St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 3 | 12 MAY 2022
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a smooth start to the Term and students are to be commended on the way they have settled into class and adapted to the Covid protocols.
Please keep the Sacramental classes in your thoughts and prayers as they begin the formal
preparations for making a Sacrament this Saturday evening with their Sacramental Enrolment Mass.
There will be a P&F meeting next Tuesday at 7:00pm in the staffroom.
Ms Sadowski, Mrs Ogg and I will be attending a curriculum conference in Melbourne next week. Mrs Ogg and Ms Sadowski will be away from Wednesday and I will be away for the entire week.
Mr Yock will be in charge in my absence.
This week we have had NAPLAN testing in Year 3&5. The student’s reports from the testing will be received by the school at the end of Term 4 and will be sent home with the end of year school reports. If you have any questions please feel free to see your child’s classroom teacher.
Given the high numbers of Covid the state is currently experiencing I am providing the latest advice from the Health Dept re: close contacts and children’s schooling.
CLOSE CONTACTS AND SUBSEQUENT COVID CASES IN THE HOME
Where an individual is identified as an asymptomatic close contact, the close contact is required to adhere to the following requirements for seven days, commencing from the day that the COVID-19 test was taken by the COVID-19 positive person:
• Wear a face mask upon leaving the home.
• Take a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) for seven days and only exit the home if a negative result is returned.
• Avoid high-risk settings until the seven-day period has concluded.
Where a subsequent COVID-19 positive case is identified in the home, the person considered an asymptomatic close contact is not required to meet the above criteria, unless the second COVID-19 test was taken after the original seven-day quarantine period.
Please see below scenarios for clarification.
Scenario 1:
• Student A is an asymptomatic close contact, living with a parent who is COVID-19 Positive.
• Student A returns a negative RAT and wears a face mask upon leaving the home.
• On day five, a sibling of Student A returns a positive COVID-19 RAT.
• Student A must complete the additional two days of Rapid Antigen Testing and wear a mask when leaving the home.
• After this time, Student A is not required to undertake a RAT or wear a face mask, even with a second COVID-19 positive person in the home.
Scenario 2:
• Student B is an asymptomatic close contact, living with a parent who is COVID-19 Positive.
• Student B returns a negative RAT and wears a face mask upon leaving the home.
• On the eighth day after the first COVID-19 case in the home, a sibling of Student B returns a positive COVID-19 RAT.
• Student A must complete a further seven days of Rapid Antigen Testing and wear a mask when leaving the home.
Please note, children under the age of 12 and students in Year 6 or below, are not required to wear a face mask, in accordance with the new Transition Face Covering Directions (No.7).
Under the Health Dept protocols the school is no longer reporting to families if students are Covid positive.
We are a Polling Place for the AEC
St Columba's is a Polling Place on Election Day and our P&F will be fundraising: you can make purchases from the sausage sizzle, cake stall or coffee van.
God Bless and keep safe.

Sacramental Enrolment Mass
The rescheduled date of the 2022 Sacramental Enrolment Mass is Saturday 14 May at 6pm.
All candidates who are making their Reconciliation, First Holy Communion or Confirmation are required to attend the Mass, along with one parent.
We ask parents to sign in their child's attendance on the sheets provided at the Church.
We look forward to seeing the candidates at Mass.
Student Code of Conduct
Our Student Code of Conduct is a student-created document that outlines the way students want to feel when they come to St Columba’s Primary School.
It outlines behaviours and actions students can take to ensure they continue to feel Safe, Happy, Included and Special.
The Student Code of Conduct also outlines steps a child can take if they feel a student is not following the Code of Conduct.
Students refer to the document in class meetings and the poster is visible in all classrooms.

NAPLAN Online 2022
This week, students in Years 3 and 5 have been involved in NAPLAN testing. This is a national test to track the progress of Year 3 and 5 students for the country, the state, systems and for schools.
Some students become anxious around these tests by the attention placed on them by the media. These are a snapshot of how your child has performed on a particular day and should not cause any stress for your child or family. It is important that routines are maintained as per a regular school week and that children, as expected each week, attend, are well rested, well fed and happy to come to school.
We utilise these tests for school planning and monitoring along with many other sources of data and your child just needs to know to try their best.
The final NAPLAN Online Numeracy Test will take place tomorrow, Friday 13 May.
Students who are absent on a particular testing day are still able to complete the test when they return to school. The NAPLAN testing window is open until Friday 20th May, giving us a full week to complete any catch up testing needed.
