Panther Weekly
March 27, 2020
I hope everyone has a great spring break. I know that most travel plans have been canceled, and the spring break some were hoping for will look different than originally thought. Despite this, please take the time to relax and enjoy the time off of E-learning.
Have a good weekend. Stay safe.
Sincerely,
Kristie Mate

Resources for talking to your kids about COVID-19
Talking about COVID-19 can be overwhelming to parents, so it can be even more challenging to share the right amount of information with kids. You can see a few resources to help you explain what's happening: https://bit.ly/2JaX14E
New and returning students can register April 8
CCSD 89 will open registration for both new and returning students at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8. The individualized SnapCodes that are used to register were mailed to homes on Friday, March 20. The new-student residency verification events (originally scheduled for March 23-25) were postponed. New families will still have to prove residency and show an original birth certificate in order for their children to start school in 2020-21. More info: https://bit.ly/2xYws0B
Special Requests-Extended to April 8th
It’s hard to believe, but we are about to begin the process of building classes for the 2020-2021 school year. Your child’s classroom teacher, the grade-level teaching team, all our specialists, and administration each play a role in the process, as we work to place each of the children into the very best setting that we can. We consider learning styles, student personalities, girl/boy ratio, class size, student academic strengths and needs, and we strive for a heterogeneous class make up (full range of abilities).
Parents also know valuable information that can help us place your children. If you are interested, you may submit an email to me no later than Wednesday, April 8, 2020. Please keep in mind that I will accept the following information from parents:
If there is information about your child’s learning style that you feel is pertinent, please share this information.
If an older child in your immediate family had a teacher and you’d like to request that a younger sibling not have the same teacher, please share this information.
If you know that your child must be separated from a specific child to optimize your child’s learning experience, please share this information.
Please note: Parental requests for specific teachers or classrooms are NOT accepted.
Factoring in all the above variables as we create class lists is a delicate balancing act. I will take each request into consideration as we do our best to meet the needs of all our students.
Sincerely,
Kristie Mate
