Message From Our Principal
Westbrook Families,
I hope this message finds you and your family doing well! It is hard to believe that this has been our first five day week since being back from Winter Break! The several transitions for students have been challenging at times but our staff's patience and understanding to work with all students to make sure students feel welcomed back into their classrooms and know the expectations across the building.
Starting next week will have a new procedure here at Westbrook for any parent dropping off a item to a student. This could be a lunch, an iPad, snowpants, boots, etc. All items will be placed on a cart inside our vestibule. We kindly ask that you use a sticky note provided and place the student's name and grade level on the sticky note. Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this new procedure.
The weather over the last few weeks has changed so significantly and has presented additional challenges for all! Thank you to all of our families for their patience as drop off and pick up has taken longer than usual with cold, wet and icy conditions. As a friendly reminder, please remain in your vehicle during arrival and dismissal as we want to ensure safety for all during this time. Should your student need additional help entering or exiting the vehicle, please let one of our staff members know! While the weather this week has been mostly rain, we were only able to make it outside for recess one day this week. A big thank you to all parents for making sure that students are prepared for outdoor recess in the event that conditions allow us to go outside! We try to be outside as much as possible while make sure that students and staff are safe!
Enjoy your weekend!
Patrick

District 225 Seeks Calendar Input
Glenbrook High School District 225 is launching a calendar study to assist in the development of the 2025-2026 school calendar. Potential modifications may include finishing Semester 1 before winter break and adjusting start and end dates, granted holidays, and semester lengths. The district is very interested in hearing from families whose students will be attending D225 schools in the coming years.

Winter Weather at Westbrook and Across the District
Here at Westbrook, we try to go outside for recess as much as possible! We know that movement breaks and some fresh air are both important for all students! There are some times when it is not possible to have outdoor recess and our priority will be to keep all students safe. Please be sure to send students with winter gear each day, as the decision for outdoor recess is often made as close to recess as possible. If the "feels like" temperature is below 10 degrees Fahrenheit, students will be kept indoors. If play structure or fields are extremely wet or icy, students may also be kept indoors. When is doubt, please send your students with winter weather gear!
In order to play in snowy conditions, students need five essentials items. These items include; boots, snowpants, jackets, gloves or mittens and headwear(hat or ear muffs). If a student does not have one of these items, they will be allowed to play on the blacktop and in some instances the playground.
With winter upon us, we wanted to remind families that this year, our procedures are different than the previous three years, with a return to the use of traditional "snow days." Though the Board approved an e-Learning plan for the District in August, that plan is an insurance policy, with remote learning days to be used only in extreme situations. If we experience inclement weather that would make it unsafe (or impossible) for staff and students to get to school, or other emergency situation, schools will be closed, no iPads required.
For many students, school is the safest place to be, even in bad weather, so the decision to close schools comes after a great deal of review, thought and collaboration with our Buildings and Grounds department, the Village, our transportation providers, and other local school district officials (as outlined in our full guidelines).
The District will post on our website and social media channels, and send emails and text messages when there are closures or other weather-related impacts to school operations. To ensure that you receive notification, log into PowerSchool to check that your phone numbers and emails are correct.
