Mariner Update Parent Edition
Volume 12 Issue 30
Message to families
Mariner Family,
I love our school! Do you love your school? As promised, reading will be the focus of our time together during our weekly parent bulletin. I have another book ready for you. All you have to do is click on the link and you will get to listen and read along to this book entitled, “When Pigasso Met Mootisse.” For all of you who love to paint, draw, create, and read, this book is for you. Read this great story with your family. The author of the book is Nina Laden and she is also the illustrator.. The book is read by Eric Close. All of our IH students have a background in art. Kindergarten through fifth grade have art class with our very own Mrs. Testa. Mrs. Testa also teaches the middle school art elective class at IHCS. Many of our parents were able to view the art gallery show in Mrs. Testa’s art room and view the beautiful creations which were all produced by K-8 students at IHCS.
Pigasso and Mootisse are based on 20th century artists, Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso. Thoughts and dreams are important and sometimes you can find encouragement in books and that’s what makes each story so special. It’s important to dream and you can be a lot of things in life, and reading has a huge impact on your creativity and what could be. We can read books in our car, in our home, in our room and books can take us around the world and we never have to leave our house. Click on the links below and they will take you to Pigasso and Mootisse and last week’s book, Catching the Moon.

Read the book(s) with your family. Give it a try. Watch your child’s eyes light up as you are reading together. This activity will present the opportunity to read, listen and think. You can extend the activity and ask your child to speak to other family members and tell them about the book. You can have your child research, along with your support and guidance, and write about Matisse and Picasso. You can take your family on a visit to the local art museum and explore additional art pieces and artists. Reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking are skills that you can work on at home. These foundational skills will also support your daughter and son to go after and catch their dreams. The more practice that your child has, to develop these skills (in bold type), the more confident they will be to attend college and to go after any career opportunity in the near future. Continue building their confidence at home. The time is now. Your children will grow up in the blink of an eye. Encourage them to become what they want to become. Expect them to win. Expect your child to be successful. Expect them to believe that they will learn at high levels and that they will continue to develop their learning. Teach them to practice their skills each day, to keep reading at home every day. Learning together as a family is fun. It’s special. Give your time in this area, as a parent, and your entire family will receive so much in return. Stay the course, and read, read, read, Mariner Family. Finish Strong.
