Jack Stuart School - October 2021

Administrator's Message

By Mrs. Lazaruik, Principal & Mr. Sikorski, Assistant Principal

Welcome October. A time to be grateful for everyone and everything we have in our lives. Take time this October to stop and reflect on all that you are grateful for.

At Jack Stuart School our school pledge is the root of everything we do each and every day. Our school pledge has been used to develop our Behaviour Matrix (expectations for everyone in every area of our school).

Our school pledge is also the foundation for our JSS Collective Commitment. These commitments were developed by staff and define our shared purpose and guide all of the work we do at Jack Stuart School.

We want to thank everyone for doing the right thing by keeping their child home when sick and completing the AHS daily checklist assessment. Together we will get through this. Take care and stay safe.

School Council/Parents' Society Report

By Terra Manion, School Council President

The first Jack Stuart School Council meeting was held on Wed., Sept. 29 and our council is as follows:

President: Terra Manion

Vice President: Jennifer Klein

Secretary: Janeece Mackay

Treasurer: Jenna Friend

Hot Lunch Coordinator: position still not filled (contact Terra if interested)

Fundraiser Coordinator: Terra Manion

This year the council will be mainly, but not limited to, fundraising for a fully inclusive, zero barrier playground addition. Fundraising has already kicked off with the DFS fundraiser. All orders are due October 14.

Due to the amount of time, labour, lack of volunteers and interest, Parents' Society will not be running the Growing Smiles/Devry greenhouse fundraiser this year. This may possibly be replaced with a coffee fundraiser and 50/50 raffle.

Participation in any school fundraisers is completely voluntary. We are thankful for those who can support these events, but please do not feel obligated to participate. If you are interested in donating directly to the playground fund, please contact Terra for details.

The Hot Lunch Program will resume once a Coordinator has been found. This program will run once a month with limited options. Please contact Terra if you are interested in taking on this role.

The next School Council Meeting is scheduled for Wed., Oct. 27 and will immediately be followed by the JSS Parents' Society Annual General Meeting (AGM).

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Get updates, ask questions and have your voice heard.

Fundraising with Save-On-Foods

JSS Parents' Society has partnered with Save-On-Foods to generate playground funds. Here is how you can help this fundraising effort:

1. Shop at Camrose Save-On-Foods (starting immediately and ongoing).

2. On the back of your receipt write 'Jack Stuart School' or 'JSS'.

3. Give your receipt to any cashier with instructions that it is for the Jack Stuart School's fundraising program.

4. Cashier will then photocopy your receipt and return the original to you.

5. JSS will receive 5% of total purchases made according to the receipts that have been submitted.

6. Money earned will go towards our fully inclusive, zero barrier playground addition.

School Picture Day

School photos will be taken Tues., Oct. 19.

Picture retakes are scheduled for Nov. 16.

Halloween Celebrations

We are pleased to announce that we will have our Halloween celebrations on Thursday, Oct 28. This will include:

  • students arriving at school with their costumes on - must be comfortable to sit in all day. No face masks, no face paint, no inflatable costumes and no weapons

  • students are not to share food

  • students must stay in their own cohort (classroom)

  • we are unable to have a traditional costume parade but will come up with a virtual alternative

Parking Lot

We have 3 drop off zones:

Zone 1 - As you enter to the right of the parking lot

Zone 2 - South end of the parking lot

Zone 3 - Bike rack as you leave the parking lot

Thank you for using the crosswalk when dropping or picking up your child.

Parent parking is the last two rows of the parking lot. The first two rows are for staff.
