Dear EUSD Families:
As election season comes to an end, I wanted to use this opportunity to thank our two school board members who are completing their four year terms this month. The role of a School Board Trustee is critical as they shape the direction and vision of the district and ensure accountability for those plans. It is often a thankless job, but I know those seeking office in this type of servant leader role are doing it to make a difference and improve schools for generations to come. I am extremely appreciative of the efforts of Rimga Viskanta and Leslie Schneider during their four years on the EUSD Board. I do believe EUSD continues to do great things and a strong, supportive Board at the helm makes all the difference.
Re-Opening Committees
Our Re-Opening Committees met this week to review input from the surveys and to plan options for next steps for increasing in person learning for students. They have also worked to tackle some of our areas of additional need such as how to safely conduct lunches on rainy days and what types of additional procedures would need to be in place for more students to be on campus in classrooms, on playgrounds and at lunch. We will be sharing updates regarding the next phases with the community in our regular Friday updates as we work to finalize details.
We have been successful in our efforts to return in hybrid with no known school transmissions at this time. We have been proactive in planning every procedure, every needed purchase and every phase beginning in May of last year. The gradual return and next phases will also be as thoughtfully presented to ensure as we open more fully, we stay open for continuity in student learning and social-emotional well being.
Please know our intent in bringing committees together now is not to rush this, rather to adequately plan so that we can communicate, prepare and execute these plans successfully and confidently sometime after winter break if conditions permit.
Your part
As COVID-19 numbers in our country and county continue to fluctuate, please continue to be vigilant at home with daily symptoms screenings, keeping children home when ill or exposed, reducing contacts outside of school and practicing distancing, mask wearing and good hygiene. We appreciate the consistent support of our EUSD community with these safety measures. We want to keep our students and staff as safe as possible!
Warmly,
Andrée Grey, Ed.D.
Superintendent
