La Marseillaise was created by Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle in 1792. He wrote it during the war with Austria. It was written in Strasbourg not in Marseillaise. This song has to do with France's freedom This song is sung at all of France's sports events. They only sing the first verse and the chorus during sporting events because that's the only one that they know.

What is La Marseillaise?
La Marseillaise is France's National Anthem. It was written in 1772 by a guy named Claude Joseph Rouget de Lisle. He wrote it during a war with Austria. Nobody thought that it would end up being the National Anthem. The song was originally written in Strasbourg not in Marseillaise. Napoleon and Louis XVIII both banned the song. Claude didn't song wasn’t written because he was revolutionary but because of all the soldiers fighting. His plan was to encourage the soldiers. The song was banned by the vichy government also. The song was very brutal at the start till they changed up a few of the lyrics to make it more settle. The song is normally sung after attacks because it means to defend their homeland under threat.
