From the Queen Bee
When I was in college I couldn't wait to be a teacher, with my very own classroom and my very own kids to teach! Then my dream came true and I loved Almost. Every. Single. Minute. of it! Even the minutes I didn't love I can hardly remember now because they just weren't the big deal I thought they were at the time. Then I set my sights on becoming a Vice Principal. I got my Masters Degree and started thinking of all the incredible students and teachers I could have an impact on! I interviewed for 8 (yes, 8!) positions before Brenda Ward called me and offered me a VP job at Brauchle, I was beside myself with happiness! Now I had the job of my dreams but it was hard, really hard, at times. I kept at it though, trying to make an impact on others because I knew I was in the right job, at the right time, doing what I'd been trained to do. Just 2 1/2 years into helping run a school, I got the opportunity to RUN THE SCHOOL! I got a "prayed for" and "dreamed about" phone call at the crack of dawn one Tuesday morning from the Superintendent to tell me, "You're the one!" I spent my very first day as Principal in tears, literally sobbed all day. I was already overwhelmed and I hadn't done anything, yet! Just the thought of the responsibilities I had accepted sent my emotions into overdrive! How on Earth was I going to run a school when the sheer thought of it was scaring me? That was the first day of what has now been a 15 year run as Principal. Some days are the BEST. DAYS. OF. MY. LIFE. and on other days, I write a letter of resignation in my head and dare myself to put it in writing. I pack my office into boxes and then unpack them and put everything back on the shelves. I call my husband and tell him, "I'm done! I can't do this anymore!" and then other days I go home giddy with excitement because I made a difference to a teacher, a parent or a student. This job is hard. Your job is hard. We have the weight of the world on our shoulders but we do what we do for a reason. We've always wanted to be where we are at this moment. Do you "REMEMBER WHEN YOU WANTED WHAT YOU CURRENTLY HAVE"?
