Self Care-Week 3
Who runs the world? GIRLS!
Our Time is Now to Celebrate One Another
This is going to sound crazy, but my inspiration for Self Care Week 3 was Adele's Grammy acceptance speech. She used most of it to thank Beyonce (someone show me how to accent the e) for her music, which empowers Adele's African American friends. That made my heart swell! While some may argue that award shows do not mirror real life, this moment showed what happens when women lift up other women. Clearly Adele has the self confidence, self respect, conviction and courage to share the stage with her peer. It is clear her accolades are genuine. I also love how Beyonce received the heartfelt praise. She owned it, accepted it and could feel the warmth bestowed upon her. We are a building filled with women (and a handful of extraordinary men) working together to create an enriched educational environment for students. However, many of us are also mothers, daughters, wives, students, coaches, referees, business people etc busting our tails in multiple arenas. Celebrating one another's successes is a way to practice our own self care in that we become stronger when we acknowledge the work of others. It is also a gift to our community because when we notice our peers, we validate their efforts and commitments.
In good health!
