MARY'S MOUNT 100 YEAR PRAYER
You have poured down so many blessings on our Mary's Mount community.
We have gathered here to give You thanks on this our 100th anniversary.
We thank You for the love, determination and vision of Saint Emilie de Vialar, for the commitment and self sacrifice of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Apparition, for the priests who guided us, for the teachers who taught us, for the students who enriched us, and for the parents who entrusted their children to us.
Thank you that our school bears the name of Mary, our most Holy mother, who constantly intercedes for us.
Strengthen us to weather all storms and challenges, so that by our response, we can bring You glory and praise.
We pray this in the name of your beloved son, our Lord Jesus Christ,
Amen.
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Over the coming weeks I will be focusing in on the five pillars that form the foundation of Mary's Mount Primary School. My focus will be on my first impressions of how Mary's Mount Community live the pillars in the daily life of the school. My first focus area is TRADITION.
We remember those who have come before us, especially the Sisters of St Joseph of the Apparition and celebrate the vision of our founders while following their path of faith through St Emilie and St Joseph.
I feel humbled to begin my principalship journey at a school that is turning 100. Over the past few weeks I have engaged in conversation with Sue Blair, the school archivist and School Advisory Council member. The stories that have been shared with me have warmed my heart. They have also provided me with great entertainment. I will do my absolute best to honour those who have come before me in my actions and in my words.
Through out this year there will be many opportunities for us to reflect and grow in our knowledge of the traditions of Mary's Mount Primary School. Yesterday a group of dedicated staff met to plan a 100 year iBook, which will be launched during Mary's Mount Week this year. It will pay tribute to past Sisters, staff and students with words, pictures and audio to truely capture the gifts of this community.
SNAPSHOTS @ Mary's Mount
A new addition to the weekly newsletter will be a section called SNAPSHOTS @ Mary's Mount.
Embedded in this will be a short video that captures the great things that are happening around the school during the week. Mrs Leech will be making this video each week for us to enjoy. You just click on the link and sit back and enjoy the visual images of the engaged, active learners at Mary's Mount Primary School.
100 YEAR MASS
On Tuesday this week we celebrated 100 years of education at Mary's Mount Primary School. Thank you to Mr Smith for arranging the mass and to Fr Suresh for officiating. At the conclusion of mass, our students and staff were presented with the unveiling of a wonderful new 100 video Mrs Muscat produced for our school community which you will find a link for above. Thank you Mrs Muscat for working on this.
Students and staff were also treated to yummy cup cakes, because after all, what is a birthday without cakes and singing. Each student was also given a bookmark printed with our school's 100 Year prayer which is also published above. A special thank you to Mrs Dickenson who organised the artwork and printing of these for all of us. There are spare bookmarks in the front office if you would like extra.
COVID-19 UPDATE
As we are publishing the newsletter, we have received news that we will be returning to Stage 4 restrictions from this Sunday. This is great news, as it is one step closer to normality. Please note, I will continue to keep you updated as changes come into effect and I receive notification from the Catholic Education Office. I would like to thank all our parents for their co-operation and support over the past two weeks as we have stepped through these uncertain times together.
PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT – Tuesday 16 February - PP to YEAR 6
Our parent information night is Tuesday 16 February commencing at 5pm in St Joseph’s Hall with a whole school welcome. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to join as a community as we have not been able to do as yet. At 5pm I will be addressing the school and sharing my leadership vision along with the School Improvement Plan goals we have mapped out for the year. Mrs Erin Leech and Mr Christopher Smith will also be sharing information with you at this time.
Parents are then invited to visit each of their child’s classes to meet your child’s teacher for a class information session and ask any questions. These sessions are repeated allowing parents with more than one child to visit each of their child’s classrooms. The sessions are as follows:
o Session 1: 5.30pm – 6.00pm,
o Session 2: 6.10pm – 6.40pm,
o Session 3: 6.50pm – 7.20pm.
Due to Phase 4 COVID-19 restrictions, ONE family representative per session is all that can attend, please. The 2m physical distancing requirements limit the number of adults permitted in a classroom. Please use the hand sanitiser on entry to the classroom, sign in and seat yourselves in the chairs provided which will be spaced appropriately.
HOMEWORK CLUB
As is normal at the beginning of the year, we are currently reviewing a number of programs to ensure they continue to meet our needs and support school outcomes. One area I am currently chatting to staff about is homework club. If you have any feedback on 'homework club' feel free to pass that feedback onto your class teacher so we can consider all options.
God bless,
Emma Bell
Principal
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

HOUSEKEEPING
INTRODUCING MRS GRABSKI
You may have noticed a new friendly face in the school office. Mrs Deanna Grabski will be helping Jane and Gabby out three days a week during this busy time of the year in Term 1 when we have compliance and processing obligations. Deanna filled in for a few days in the office on relief at the end of last year, and will be assisting students, answering parent enquiries and helping with other general administrative tasks this term. Please introduce yourself and welcome Deanna to the MMPS community.
SCHOOL FEES
All families were emailed their 2021 fee invoice yesterday. As this is the first 'whole' year we are processing in our new system, we are asking all families to return the completed Payment Option Advice Form to the office by 19 February 2021, regardless of the payment option chosen. It is important every family completes and returns the form, as we will be required to follow up any families who have not reyturned the paperwork.
PHOTO PERMISSION, IT AGREEMENTS, SACRAMENTAL & FAMILY DETAILS PAPERWORK
We are currently putting the finishing touches to the beginning of the year paperwork which will be distributed next week to all families. Instructions on this paperwork will be included with the forms. Please keep an eye out for this.
MEDICAL SUPPLIES
We are currently reviewing student medicines on file. Families will be contacted if up-to-date medication needs to be supplied to the school. Please remember, students are not to hold medication in their school bag. If medication is required while they are at school, a medical permission form needs to be completed and the medication handed in to the school office.
SCHOOL PHOTOS
School photos are in a few weeks. Order forms and information will be distributed next week, so please keep an eye out for this. As in previous years, school photo orders will be online.
Thank you for your patience during this busy time of the year. Of course if you have any questions, please contact the school office any time via 9290 5200 or via admin@mmps.wa.edu.au.

MMPS IN THE NEWS
In case you missed it, MMPS was in the news this week. We are so blessed to have so many wonderful, multi-generational families in our school community like the Giovinazzo/Bonomi’s family who are woven into the fabric of our school. You can read the article below.
MMPS MUSIC & CHOIR
The Mary’s Mount Primary School Choir is an important part of our school community. Often performing at assemblies and various school events, the choir is also an integral part of the Catholic Performing Arts Festival held every year during the month of August and we have registered for another year in the One Big Voice Festival for 2021.
I am once again inviting students from Year 3 to Year 6 to join the choir; to come along and have some musical fun.
Choir rehearsals have changed slightly this year, and will now take place during school as a timetabled part of your child’s day, every Tuesday afternoon 1.20pm – 1.50pm. This will allow for us to grow as a Choir with students participating in a full half an hour session of singing; developing intergral aural and listening skills in the process.
Being a member of a school choir provides students with confidence and an opportunity to represent our school in a great team environment. This is also an opportunity for students to engage with an audience, however big or small, and the wonderful experience music provides those around us encapsulating the Christian values we share at our school.
I look forward to sharing a wonderful and positive music experience with your child should they decide to join the Mary’s Mount Primary School Choir this year.
If you have any questions, please contact me via email, Stephanie.Freeman@cewa.edu.au or by leaving a message at the School Office.
Warmest regards,
Mrs Freeman

WELCOME BACK FROM THE P&F
Welcome back to school for 2021 - finally! It's been great to see so many happy little faces at school this week - and we're hoping there are some happy smiles from parents behind those masks too! Although it's been a challenging start to the school year, we are confident that it will only get better, in this our 100th year of schooling at MMPS.
Did you receive your 100 Year Birthday Gift from the P&F this week? Your P&F gifted each family a packet of native Everlasting seeds, which we hope you will plant in your garden at home with your children as an 'everlasting' reminder of the good times at MMPS in 2021. The seeds are best planted in Autumn or Winter so get ready to get planting soon. A small complementary 100 year birthday gift will also be provided to each student in the middle of the year in recognition of their attendance at the school in this very special year as well.
Unfortunately, the information sent home on Monday was printed before the recent COVID restrictions came into effect. This meant the dates included have since been changed. Be sure to check on the Term Planner and the weekly newsletter for updated event dates.
A very big welcome to all of the new families that have joined our MMPS family this year. It's great to have you join us and we look forward to meeting you all soon. Our 'Big Splash Welcome Back Party' for ALL families will be held on Saturday 6th March from 3-6pm on the school oval. We'd love to see everyone there and hope that the weather is kind to us! A sausage sizzle and drinks will be available for an early dinner, as will icy poles. Just bring your children in swimmers, towels, nibbles and a picnic blanket. Slides and wet activities are provided for free.
Our first P&F Meeting of the year will be held on Wednesday 9th March from 1.30-3pm at the school. We'd love to see you there so please come along. You don't need to take on a formal role (unless you want to) - just come and help us make some decisions and provide your input as you'd like. The more the merrier and all feedback and any amount of support you can provide is valued.
Wishing you all a wonderful year of schooling.
Yours in education,
MMPS P&F Committee

FOCUS MUSIC - ENROLMENTS NOW OPEN FOR TERM 1, 2021
DID YOU KNOW YOU CAN LEARN AN INSTRUMENT AT SCHOOL?
The start of the year is a great opportunity to try something new. Why not explore learning an instrument?
Lessons are facilitated by the staff from Focus Music who attend the school each week during the school day to deliver individual and small-group lessons to students who select to take part in the program. There are concerts and performance opportunities each semester for all students.
CHOOSE FROM Piano, Drums, Guitar, Ukulele, Singing, Violin, Viola and the SCHOOL BAND!
Piano | Voice - Daniel D’Rozario
Since learning the piano at the age of 7, Daniel has built a passionate career towards music and music education. Now with over 15 years of experience as a classically trained and qualified (AMEB) pianist, Daniel has graduated from the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) with a wealth of knowledge in music theory, education and performance in both classical and contemporary piano and singing. Daniel prides himself in getting the best out of his students through understanding their musical ambitions to then cater to each individual.
Outside of music education, Daniel remains passionate towards music performing in local original bands and is a radio presenter amongst other roles in WA’s music industry.
Guitar | Bass Guitar | Ukulele | Band Director - School Program Coordinator - Greg Barnett
Greg has been teaching and playing for over 20 years. After graduating from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, UK he made his way to Australia to continue his teaching career down under. Greg has a flexible teaching approach, basing his lessons off the AMEB Rockschool syllabus, with an emphasis on intuitive performing and repertoire building. This includes a functional theory component to compliment students’ playing ability. You can read more about our curriculum on our website.
Violin | Viola - Patrick Meyer
Patrick started learning his instrument when I was 8 years old and is now undertaking a Bachelor of Classical Instrumental Performance – Violin and Viola at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). When it comes to starting an instrument, Patrick believes it’s not a matter of age, but rather of effort. The youngest student he’s had was four years old, with his oldest student being in her sixties! Every student learns differently so in his lessons, the teaching methods, technique and repertoire are tailored to the individual.
Drums - Ben Stacy
Ben has been playing drums for over 15 years and has gained experience in a variety of settings, from rock and pop bands to jazz and experimental ensembles. He has played with a number of local and international artists and has performed across Australia as well as abroad. His passion for music has also led him to study at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he has completed a Diploma of Contemporary Music as well as a Certificate IV in Jazz, and is now in the final year of his Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance.
Ben shares his passion for music and learning with his students, catering lessons to their individual interests and level of experience. Through the development of fundamental skills such as instrumental technique, an understanding of music notation and theory, as well as approaches to both groove-playing and improvisation in a variety of styles, he seeks to inspire students and equip them with the ability to play at a high level and express their own musical ideas through the drum set.
