Healthy Practices
Parents, in addition to extra cleaning over each weekend, we have reminders on our morning announcements for healthy practices, such as:
- Washing hands throughout the day (our teachers have built time into their schedules for this)
- Avoiding sharing food and drinks
- Covering coughs or sneeze with a tissue or elbow
- Staying home until fever free for 24 hours
These are all best practices that help our children remain healthy and safe, but reminders and attention to details are always helpful! Some links are listed below for you to use at home.

Habits at Home: Habit 5 - The Second Half of the Habit – Seek first to understand...then to be understood.
Habit 5 doesn’t stop with seeking to understand others, although it emphasizes that first. Next, we must make our own feelings understood in a clear and concise manner. We can do that by practicing ‘I’ messages. ‘I’ messages are equal and respectful. ‘You’ messages are negative, superior, and judgmental.
The Four-Step Process using ‘I’ messages
When I see... (e.g., clothes piled up, disorganization, tardiness, etc.)
I feel...(e.g., upset, disheartened, angry, happy, concerned, etc.)
Because it...(causes me more work, lowers respect, prohibits family time, etc.)
So....(e.g., could we talk about how our family can better work together, could we talk about your curfew, can we discuss how important family meal times are to me, etc.)
7 Habits of Successful Families
Practice using ‘I’ messages with your family this week and notice the difference it can make.
