The Carleton Chronicle
A weekly update from Carleton Middle School
Greetings from Carleton!
We are getting down to the wire with end of the year festivities, field trips, and celebrations of learning. I hope you will take the time to read our Chronicle this week and complete our survey.
Thank you for those parents that have taken our School Improvement Survey. If you have not taken it yet, please use the link below to take this short survey. It will help us plan for upcoming years and ultimately, make Carleton a better place. https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=pn_A77MqyEGnCKQjOeA4oiKImEnW_2dLllps3078Z-xUNEhNNkNCSDg3QlVCVDZDVEY4V1Y0SUhTOS4u
Our band students returned safely from their trip to Mackinac and had a great time performing and receiving clinics from guest conductors.
Ms. Darling and Ms. Rocca's students were able to visit Wolcott Farm in Ray, Michigan and had a terrific time learning more about animals in their natural habitat.
Our student council students were treated to a field trip to CJ Barrymore's. Although the weather did not cooperate, the students did not mind coming back to school soaked, only to sit through the last few minutes of sixth hour.
Our state assessments including MSTEP and MI-Access have concluded this week. Our aides, counselors, and teachers deserve such credit for administering this assessment to hundreds of students over the past several weeks.
Lastly, our 8th grade farewell tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, May 30th during all three lunches. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

On the topic of next year...
As we transition to next year, here's some information for families to be aware of:
- Part of our work to develop and maintain strong communication hinges on having accurate home and email addresses as well as telephone numbers. If you've had a change, please contact our Counseling Office at (586) 698-4498 or by emailing Joyce Frankowski at jfrankowski@wcskids.net
- For those who plan ahead, Registration Day for next year will be on August 21st and 22nd. More information to come out throughout the summer.

As we all work to #FinishStrong this year at Carleton, Mrs. Clark and I have discussed how to start the summer strong with our children. We, like many of you, are seeking to work with our children to help them get outside and active, avoid screen time, and grow their minds preparing for the 2017-2018 school year. As many of you begin this same process here are a few things we have discussed in my house.
-Identify screen free hours in our house
-Look into camps and other activities through the city (Many of these camps are available at an affordable cost)
-Set aside a library day to get books every week
-Plan a meaningful family trip to one of the many places that can grow our children's world knowledge (the zoo, the DIA, or the Detroit Science Center)
-We will identify at home learning activities that are appropriate for our children. For my oldest that means time learning to type and for my youngest it means writing a sentence each day.
Have a great rest of the year
