Third Grade Trio
Mrs. Amador: Science and Reading
My husband and I live here in The Woodlands with our two wonderful daughters, although our oldest is at college in Boston. I attended CISD schools before heading off to college. After graduating from The University of Texas, I taught for two years in Austin. I then returned to CISD and taught at Giesinger Elementary for sixteen years, during which I received my master's degree in reading from Sam Houston State University. Nine years ago I made the move to Buckalew as a third grade teacher. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the students and parents at our wonderful school!
Engaging young students in science and reading are near and dear to my heart. I look forward to our year of working together, and I can't wait to meet each of you tomorrow at Stop and Drop!
Mrs. Garrett: Math
Hi, I am Julie Garrett, your child's Math teacher this year . My husband and I have lived just outside of the Woodlands since 1997. I have two awesome, married daughters that graduated from the Texas school system (UT. & Baylor.) I have taught for 27 years. 20 years in Third Grade Math. 17 years here at Buckalew Elementary. I graduated from Millsaps in Mississippi. Originally from Tennessee, I have also taught in Louisiana. I love the age group and the curriculum of Third Grade. Getting children enthusiastic about Math and loving the challenge of complex problem solving is my passion. The infusion of technology in education has brought fresh excitement into the classroom. I look forward to working with you this year to help your child explore and become an amazing mathematician. It is a wonderful world evolving for your child, and I am thrilled to be a part of the evolution! It is my honor to teach.
Mrs. Welch Writing and Social Studies
My name is Lori Welch, and I teach third grade writing and social studies. This is my sixth year of teaching, and my third year at Buckalew. What a wonderful campus to call home!
I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2010. While I love my university, I also have a special place in my heart for Texas A&M. Gig 'em!
Along with attending Aggie football games, I enjoy running, biking, traveling, reading, and cooking. My husband and I have completed two half-marathons. My racing shoes have been retired for the time being as we await the birth of our first child. Our little girl is due in early December, and we cannot wait to meet her!
I am thrilled to teach your child this year and to see their progress as writers and explorers. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. I am looking forward to a fabulous year!
Homework
- One of the most important (and fun) things our students should do each day is to read. They are expected to read for a minimum of 120 minutes per week (30 minutes-4 times a week).
- Math homework is an important part of success in math in third grade. Typically math homework will come home on Friday and be due the following Friday.
Your child will use a planner to aid in organizing for studying. They will record assignments on the first day of each week or when they return, if they have been absent. Please encourage them to share this planner with you so that you are able to help with any needs they may have.
