Chemistry
The study of Matter and the changes it undergoes.
Who am I?
I am Mrs. Anthony. This year marks year 4 for me at Mill River. Before teaching at Mill River I worked for 2 years in Quality Control in MA. I received a BS in Chemistry and a BS in Forensic Science from the University of New Haven in 2010. I greatly enjoy the wonders of science, chemistry in particular. I hope to share some of my excitement towards chemistry with my students. I am really excited to be working with all of your children this year!
The Beginning....
Since the beginning of school we have been working with skills that are important to chemistry. We began by looking at measurements; what they mean, how to take them, and which glassware to use when. We have also been working on learning the names and symbols of the first 36 elements of the periodic table as we will be using these on a regular basis this year. We have covered the 5 main fields of chemistry as well as the basic parts of the scientific method.
Schedule
80 minute block days
On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays students will have an 80 minute chemistry class.
Mondays - Lab Day
Students will be preforming labs on Mondays. They are required to wear closed-toe shoes and long pants (covering the ankles). If a student is not prepared for lab, it will count as a missed lab causing them to lost 15 points and requiring the student to find a video on the lab, obtain the data from a classmate to do the report.
Tuesdays and Thursdays
On Tuesdays student will have chemistry for 40 minutes then a 40 minute study hall.
On Thursdays students will not see me for chemistry, they will have an 80 minute study hall.
CHEM IS TRY - its not going to be easy all the time.
