Back In The Swing
After a Whirlwind Tour of The Carolinas...
Trust in Prevention
It's hard to watch them experience people moving through their lives- especially foreign volunteers like me, who often stay for 1-3 years then disappear. I don't know how long this season will last, but I'm grateful for the chance to build relationship with them while I can.
As their English quickly improves and my Thai slowly improves, the friendships are gradually deepening... Praying for interactions that point them to a God who will never leave nor forsake them.
Trust in Protection
Perhaps surprising: one of the components in the manual is a unit on self-care. For the investigators.
Shining a light on this particular brand of darkness can produce unique stresses and challenges- personally and professionally. For some, this is the first time that anyone has suggested self-care to avoid burnout or destructive coping mechanisms. Several have expressed gratitude for the concern for their well-being.
Trust in Restoration
My point is that we are working together. We have to work together. It's the only way to be effective in this uphill battle. And every child is worth it.
As one of the gals pictured noted, "Sometimes this work can seem overwhelming. It's refreshing and reinforcing to join together in striving toward our common goals: justice and healing."
Powerlessness
As my dad enters the final stage of his life on earth, I am reminded of simple prayers:
- His will.
- His way.
- His timing.
And simple truths:
- The quickest pathway to peace is acceptance of what is.
- God can be trusted.
Because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high
to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death,
to guide our feet into the way of peace. ~ Luke 1:78-79
Thank you for your prayers & love!
