Love What You Do!
Message from Principal Phelan
Dear Lowell School,
In honor of Thanksgiving, I like to say what a privilege it is to be a part of the Lowell school community. The last 18 months have been unprecedented as we faced challenges incurred by the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, there have been many moments we've faced together, some good and others sad. Each phase has only strengthened our commitment to nurturing, supporting, and educating every student. I am sincerely grateful for each member of our extended Lowell community during this Thanksgiving Season.
We will hold our second Student Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging Council meeting on Tuesday, November 23rd! Given the large turnout last time, we will split the students into four groups; each group will meet for 30 minutes.
The Student DIB Council will begin a two months-long celebration of traditions. I will be using materials from Havard University's Tanenbaum Center for Combating Religious Prejudice. We will explore how our unique traditions and celebrations share common themes of family, faith, food, love, warmth, compassion, charity, good deeds, prosperity, peacemaking, and respect. Students will be asked to conduct a Family Celebration interview with their family over Thanksgiving Break. Students will use these interviews to teach each other about their unique traditions.
We'd also like to highlight the traditions of our students in December and January. We ask you to join us. We would love to display pictures from your holidays and New Year Celebrations. We'd also like to highlight photos on our Facebook account similar to those we posted for Dewali.
Sincerely,
Stacy

This year, we'll be featuring a different musician each month. Our musicians of the month will represent different time periods, cultures, and genres of music. Last month, we celebrated Latin American music with a unit on Buena Vista Social Club from Cuba. This month, we're discussing Western Classical Music with a unit on violinist Itzhak Perlman.
