A Challenge Edition!
A gentle challenge: Asking for an act of kindness
Lenny Roberge, a WWII veteran will turn 106 on June 12, 2020. VFW Post 782 member, Peter Tousley, received word from Mr. Roberge's daughter her hopes to make another birthday special for her father. She's asking fellow veterans and community members alike to send the centenarian a birthday greeting. She set a goal for 106 birthday cards and I believe with our help, a man who has truly lived will receive them and many more happy wishes for his birthday.
If you accept this gentle challenge, please send a birthday card to Mr. Roberge, before June 12.
90 Allen Road, Apt 22, South Burlington, VT 05403.
Peter writes, about his long-time friend: This gentleman is amazing. Still really with it and always has a joke to share. He lives in assisted living but has his own apartment and loves to bake pies. He was a dear friend of my father’s 'til he passed away two years ago. The two WWII Sailors would pick up their Army buddy and head down to McDonald's for lunch out.

A Community Service Challenge
Post 782 is under attack!
VFW Post 782 area beautification project and facility clean-up
Please bring your family, friends, community partners, garden tools, power tools, pressure washers... all are welcome! We'll take on cleaning up the Post grounds, de-cluttering and re-sanitizing spaces, and completing building improvement projects. If you have building industry skills, we need your help to assess the best way to improve various areas. Please send a message if you'd like to gain access to the Post a few days early to make assessments.
Your RSVP guarantees better management of priorities of work and will help support our physical distancing plan. If you can't make it on either day (the event is from 10:00am - 4:00pm on both days), and wish to support the Post another time, please send a note sharing your availability. Another similar event will likely be necessary. Members and non-members are invited to participate in this event.
Water is available but please bring your lunch. Post 782 will host a proper thank you when the timing is right.

Wait! There's more to the story...
Green Up Day Heroes!
A small group from Queen City BNI (and two energetic family members) began the work needed to clean up the graffiti on the Post building and the much needed sprucing up of the property grounds.
Heartfelt thanks to our new community partners for caring enough to organize and offer support to VFW Post 782 in this way. Choosing a veterans organization for your Green Up Day project is truly praise-worthy! Veterans should salute you AND... follow your lead during our scheduled Post clean up event!

Post Commander's Challenge: June 14 - July 4
Okay, don't be alarmed! I am talking about a run streak, appropriately clothed.
Run streaking, as defined by Runner's World magazine: Run at least 1-mile a day for a set period of time. For this challenge, walking 1-mile a day counts.
I challenge veterans, our family, friends and community partners to dedicate each day from Flag Day (June 14) - Independence Day (July 4) to get outside and intentionally move for 1-mile. Throughout the challenge, you will take note of the changes happening for you - physically, mentally, and spiritually.
During the 21-day challenge, you are invited to share your experiences and photos throughout your journey or at the end of the challenge at: postcommander@vfw782.org. Your submissions will be added to the Post 782 website to inspire others. I will commit to sharing updates regularly to keep me motivated to do this thing! The same move might help you too! ~m
