1st Years News:

The first years will have their first presentation next Thursday, October 1st! On Open House night, project groups will show parents their Fab Lab creations and practice their tour.

Most of our presentations at the Academy, including Thursday's, require business casual attire. The first years have been given general guidelines on what to wear. The Academy has a professional clothing closet for any learners who have difficulty getting proper attire. Please let the first year facilitators know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you to Mrs. Kellmeyer who brought a wardrobe for the clothing closet and has prepared it for learner use this year!

Second Year learners have begun their next project, Really, Really Cold Case. In this project learners will delve into the chaotic world of politics and identity, by describing the actions surrounding a fictional crime. They will be asked to consider historical information and use scientific techniques as they convey the significance of the scene of the crime, politically and biologically.

During Titan Time, Detective Pfahning from the Plano Police department spoke with learners about compiling a case file and solving cold cases. Learners will use this information as they prepare for their mid point file review presentation on October 16th.

Don’t forget to purchase your tickets to the viewing of the film, Everest on October 1st at the Studio Movie Grill in Richardson. Tickets are available for $10.00 at school or online through the PTSA Toolkit.

3rd Year News:

We are coming down to the nitty gritty in the Fights for Your Rights Project. The learners are finally talking to the opposition in evidence exchange and Depositions. The kids are gearing up for the final showdown in the Mock Trials happening on October 7th and 8th.

4th Year News:

INTERNSHIP paperwork is past due to Ms. Cone. Please encourage your learner to turn in their paperwork on Monday. Over half of our learners still need to complete this step even though they've completed their internships. Chances are, your child is one of those who need a parental reminder. Thank you!!

Principal's Coffee on 9/24

Thank you for carving out time in your morning to join me and our PTSA in the Dome for breakfast goodies, coffee, and conversation! I'm so pleased that many of you lingered and got to know each other, interacted with our learners, and connected with our PTSA members.

Student Leadership Advisory Council

Launched by State Representative Jeff Leach in 2014, the Student Leadership Advisory Council (SLAC) is designed to provide a unique opportunity for high school students within House District 67 to engage in the legislative process with Representative Leach and his staff and to obtain a hands-on education of the role and inner-workings of Texas state government.

"The primary objective of the Student Leadership Advisory Council is to educate, encourage and inspire our next generation of Texas leaders by providing them with a venue to learn the intrinsic value of public service," stated Leach. "It is my hope that through this program, these bright young leaders will leave with a more thorough understanding of the nuts and bolts of the Texas Legislature and the significance of civic engagement."

Representative Leach's office is now accepting applications for the 2015-2016 school year. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in grades 9-12 in public, private or homeschool and must reside in District 67<http://www.fyi.legis.state.tx.us/Home.aspx>. Students will be selected by the Student Leadership Advisory Council Selections Committee, which is comprised of various community leaders within House District 67. Applications are due September 29, 2015 and final selections will be announced on October 7, 2015.

Students selected to participate in the Student Leadership Advisory Council will be required to attend three meetings throughout the 2015-2016 school year. Meetings will be led by Representative Leach and his staff as well as other elected officials, covering various topics including the significance of community involvement, the role and functions of state government and the overall legislative process.
