Thank you, Wilson students, staff, and families!
Last week we welcomed some students in Cohort S back to the building and this Wednesday we will be welcoming some students from Cohort B. We are very proud of how the students who have returned to the building are being so safe, respectful, and responsible! Thank you!
Wolfie made a short video to show how our school looks a little different and how we are following some new rules to stay safe and healthy when we are in the school building. Click here to watch the video!
We also want to thank the students who are learning remotely for being so patient and responsible with their learning while their teachers and some classmates are learning new routines and new technology set-ups in the building.
We appreciate our staff and teachers for their amazing effort, flexibility, and teaching as we adjust to this concurrent model of teaching students who are both in the building and remote.
As always, we appreciate the support of all of our Wilson families!
Schedule of students returning to the building
Please read the Framingham Public Schools "Return to School Update" from February 26th that explains the timeline for students returning to the building.
Students who have chosen to return to the building are in Phase III (Cohort "S") or Phase IV (Cohorts "A" or "B"). Many families have chosen for their children to continue with remote instruction and will not be returning to the building.
- Students in Cohort S will attend school every day each week starting last Wednesday February 24th.
- Students in the A cohort will attend in person on “A-Week” and learn remotely during “B-Week.” Students in Cohort A return to the building the week of Monday March 8th.
- Students in Cohort B will attend in-person on “B-Week” and learn remotely during “A-Week.” Students in Cohort B return to the building on Wednesday March 3rd for the remainder of this week.
Families who wish to shift from hybrid learning to remote only may request to do so at any time. Requests should be directed to the Principal DeMorais at pdemorais@framingham.k12.ma.us so that proper notice may be given to the teacher(s), transportation office, etc. Requests to shift from remote to hybrid learning will be considered on March 19, 2021 for an April 5, 2021 return provided that space is available given the need to maintain 6-foot physical distancing. Another Family Decision Checkpoint will be offered on May 10, 2021 for a May 24, 2021 return.
My MedBot app
MyMedBot (Attestation App)
MyMedBot is your ticket to school! MyMedBot is used to screen all FPS staff and students daily for potential COVID symptoms. Students, families, and staff must answer a series of COVID-19 related questions and based on the answers, the app will show a red screen, meaning you are not permitted to enter the school or a green screen, meaning you may enter the school. MyMedBot invitation codes are unique for each user and are being rolled out by cohort to families with students who are returning to in-person instruction. Here is the rollout plan:
Phase I, II, and III Students are already using it!
Cohort B will receive codes on March 1st for a March 3rd start. (Phase IV)
Cohort A will receive codes on March 4th for a March 8th start. (Phase IV)
If you are scheduled to come back to school and you do not receive the message, you can contact the FPS COVID Call Center (see below). Please remember to complete MyMedBot everyday that your child is scheduled to attend school in-person.
COVID Call Center
Framingham Public Schools has launched a trilingual COVID Call Center to help families with the MyMedBot App questions. Families can reach the Call Center by email COVID@framingham.k12.ma.us or by calling (508) 782-6633. Call Center staff are available between 5:00am to 6:00pm Monday through Friday. Staff who have MyMedBot App questions should continue to reach out to the Help Desk.

Covid-19 Pooled Testing for Students
Free pooled testing will be available weekly during the school day for all students in attendance for their scheduled week of in-school learning beginning Thursday March 4, 2021. All testing will take place in the hallway outside of each classroom. Self-administration of the nasal swab will be performed by students in grades 3-5; CIC staff will administer the nasal swab for students in grades K-2 and any child with a physical handicap or disability.
A completed, signed consent (English, Spanish, Portuguese) form is required for participation. Although participation is voluntary, it is strongly encouraged.
Pooled testing involves mixing several respiratory test samples together in a “batch” or “pool” and then testing the pooled sample with a PCR test for detection of COVID-19. This approach increases the number of individuals that can be tested using the same amount of resources as a single PCR test. The test is performed at least once per week with anterior nasal swab. Test results are delivered within approximately 24-48 hours. If a pooled test result is negative, then all individuals within that pool are presumed negative and may continue to remain in school. If a pooled test result is positive, then all individuals in the pool must quarantine until they are retested individually with a PCR test.
For additional information, please review the Framingham Public Schools COVID-19 Testing for Students Overview English, Spanish, Portuguese.

Students research & suggest new names for our school
During Library and Portuguese class, all K-5 students learned that our school will be changing our name because we do not support President Woodrow Wilson’s racist beliefs and we want a new name that supports our school’s values of social justice. Click here to read our previous weekly updates about this renaming process.
Students in grades 3-5 are researching possible new names for our school and you can see some of the inspiration for their suggested name ideas in the image above! As they research ideas, they are reflecting on how it supports the criteria for a new name for our school. They have options for how to creatively share their reasons why their idea is the best name for our school and their School Name Suggestion project is due March 19th.
Criteria to consider for the new name for our school:
Our school’s name SHOULD:
Represent our beliefs and values as an IB World School
Support Social Justice
Our school’s name CAN:
Be named after an important person, place, historical event, organization, or idea
Be a name connected to our city, state, country, or the world
Our school’s name WON’T:
Be named after anyone who works at our school or in Framingham
Be named after anyone who is racist or who treats people unfairly
Starting next week, students in grades K-2 will also participate in an activity connected to the renaming of our school during Library class. They will be creating 3-D models of our school to decorate with pictures and words in Portuguese and English that describe our school community, including their ideas for a new school name. Please begin collecting any cereal boxes, shoe boxes, or tissue boxes that students in grades K-2 can use for this project.
Soon FPS will share a SMORE newsletter & Google Form to collect name suggestions from staff, families, students, community members, etc.
Tuesday, March 23 7:00-8:30pm: “Looking Back, Moving Forward: Renaming the Woodrow Wilson School”- read more and register to attend here!
Thank you for your support and please reach out to the school if you have any questions.
Read to a Child program
Read to a Child is a Read Aloud Mentoring Program that takes place on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during lunchtime. Students in the program in grades 2-4 should log on to the Google Meet to join their mentor through Google Classroom at their assigned day and time. Read to a Child will be held virtually this year and students in the program who are remote and in person can participate on their chromebook.
