Museum at FLEX: This IS Kalapuyan Land

Our school just got its own museum! "This IS Kalapuyan Land" is a yard sign exhibition featuring contemporary Native American artwork from an exhibition curated by Steph Littlebird Fogel at Five Oaks Museum.

The exhibition is in front of Tumwater (formerly Timberland School - 650 NW 118th Ave. Portland, OR 97229)

Try walking through the museum while listening to the music playlist; follow the Look/ Imagine/Wonder way of seeing art; scan the links on each sign for way more info on the artists; learn more about Kalapuyan Peoples through the reference links.

The downloadable Stay Learning Guide below, includes:

  • A fun and easy approach to viewing contemporary art
  • A playlist of contemporary Native American music
  • Free video game and app downloads
  • Guide to key words for discussing Native culture and people
  • Discussion questions and learning tools for all ages
  • Expanded learning resources from Native perspectives
  • Videos, podcasts, articles and SO MUCH MORE!

This video is an explanation of the exhibition for kids and everyone else too!

Middle & High Schoolers - A/B Day Schedule Change

With the upcoming move to hybrid at neighborhood schools, the district has changed the A/B schedule. We will be changing with it to remain consistent and provide for our staff and families who are part of more than one BSD school.

Starting the week of April 19th, we will be A/B, B/A for the week instead of the current A/B, A/B.

Please see the calendar below to help ensure students are signing in to the correct classes.

The full year-at-a-glance calendar is updated and can be downloaded or printed.
