Happy Easter!
Parents and Students,
Teachers have been given direction from Gwinnett County Public School and Gwin Oaks school administration to begin taking modified grades for Digital Learning activities. Teachers are afforded some flexibility in how to take grades. Our Second Grade Team will follow the same plan, so you can expect a clear and equitable grading policy for all Second Grade students. We will begin taking grades next week (Digital Learning Week 4).
It is imperative that you complete the math assignment in Mrs. Haile's eClass. I will need the graded assignment so that I can place the grade in my gradebook. Please guide your student to complete the math and discussion board on my eClass page.
Teachers will record one participation grade each week in the core subjects of Reading, Writing, Math, and Science/Social Studies for assignments posted Monday-Thursday. Participation assignments are weighted in the gradebook as “classroom” grades. They will be labeled in the gradebook as “Digital Learning Week 4” (5, 6, etc.). The scoring follows:
Student completed all weekly assignments = 100%
Student completed 3 weekly assignments = 90%
Student completed 2 weekly assignments = 80%
Student completed 1 assignment that week = 70%
Teachers will also take occasional summative (assessment) grades in the core subjects. Summative assignments are labeled in the gradebook as “summative” grades, and they are typically weighted more heavily than classroom grades because there are fewer. These are usually our unit tests, but they will now be a range of activities in the digital format. We will communicate in advance exactly which activities will be graded and how they will be scored.
Students can expect content lessons Monday-Thursday. The Digital Learning activities posted on Fridays will be review activities, and they will not be graded. Therefore, students should use Friday as a day to make sure all activities are completed for the week.
As always, all of your child’s teachers and I are available to provide guidance and support. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns. Our students have overwhelmingly embraced our new digital adventure. They are flexible and quick to adjust to new expectations. Throughout it all, they are learning and producing good work. I am tremendously proud to be a part of this Fifth Grade Family!
Thank you for your patience and kindness as I implement Digital Learning Lessons and attach links to websites that teach lessons, show games, and provide a variety of technical learning opportunities. I am learning something new each week.
Please email me with any issues that your child is experiencing.
