Wilder Elementary School
Family Newsletter - May 2023
Greetings from Wilder!
Dear Families,
We celebrate our teachers for Teacher Appreciation Week during the first week in May! Please take a moment to contact your child's teacher(s) with a message of appreciation. Your words mean a lot! We are incredibly proud of the work our teachers do every day.
Just a reminder to register your child for school next year. The registration deadline is past due. Please complete the process no later than Friday, May 5th. Links to register were emailed to families. Let the office know if you have moved and will attend a new school. Creating class lists involves the administration, the current classroom teacher, next year's teachers, and special ed teachers. Due to this collective effort, please note that requests for classroom teachers are not accepted, and placements will not be changed once assignments are announced.
The parent focus group met for the first time. We discussed the High Reliability School Certification process. Information on how Wilder has sustained Level 1: Safe, Supportive, and Collaborative culture was shared. We also started discussing the drop-off/pick-up process at Wilder and plan to meet again. If you want to join our parent focus group, please call the office. The staff has spent the last month preparing for HRS Level 2: Effective Teaching in Every Classroom certification. The review team will assess the following areas:
* 2.1 The school leader communicates a clear vision as to how instruction should be addressed in the school.
*2.2 Support is provided to teachers to continually enhance their pedagogical skills through reflections and professional growth plans.
*2.3 Predominant instructional practices throughout the school are known and monitored.
*2.4 Teachers are provided with clear, ongoing evaluations of their pedagogical strengths and weaknesses that are based on multiple sources of data and are consistent with student achievement data.
*2.5 Teachers are provided with job-embedded professional development that is directly related to their instructional growth goals.
*2.6 Teachers have opportunities to observe and discuss effective teaching.
We thank you for your continued partnership in your child's education!

PARENTS LEAD
Listening is a powerful parenting tool.
You may not always know what to say but by listening carefully, with interest, and with empathy, you send the message that you care, are emotionally available, understand and accept. Kids sometimes feel that their parents “don’t understand” or “don’t listen” which can lead to a feeling of disconnection from parents. Good listening involves reflecting back or paraphrasing what your child has said so they know that you fully heard. Responses like, “It sounds like you are pretty angry at your coach” or “From what you are saying, it sounds like you feel she isn’t being a very good friend to you. Is that right?”
