Barrett Team Adventures
January 3, 2017
Dear UMAC Families,
Happy 2017! I hope that you had a wonderful and relaxing winter vacation. It will be so fun to get together this week and continue on our academic journey together.
As we kick off the new year, we will continue to focus on growth mindset. We will take the data from our MAP scores, tests and daily work, to set new academic goals. While I conference with your learner, here are some of the phrases that will help us achieve new goals.
I am not afraid of a challenge!
I can train my brain to do it!
I can’t do it yet, but with effort I can!
My mistakes help me grow!
Through coaching and self reflection, our team will continue to attain strong success!
Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Michelle Barrett

All aboard! This week our team will start traveling through the Northeast. Throughout our travels, our team will be stopping at several historical landmarks to learn about the landforms and history within this region. There will be many hands-on activities throughout these stops to support our learning.
**Please remember that on Friday, January 6, our learners will be taking the Northeast states and capital test. They will be required to locate each state and capital and spell the name accurately. Hopefully the study guide and flashcards have been helpful to use as they prepare.
Math
New Friends- After tackling division, our students will learn how to simplify and evaluate math expressions. Parentheses will be introduced to show which operation will be done first. Other topics will include comparing multiplication and addition problems. The daily practice of multiplication and division facts at home are making a difference. Please keep practicing!
Old Friends- This week our old friends will review place value and the impact of a decimal point. We will also continue to practice two digit by two digit multiplication and making estimates to ensure our answer (and the placement of the decimal point) makes sense.
Upcoming Events:
Friday, Jan. 6- Northeast Region State/Capital Test
School Spirit Day
Friday, Jan. 13- Institute Day (No School for students)
