Principal's Update
Scappoose Students, Families, and Staff,
Graduation week is here! Congrats to all the Seniors! The time has come for the Class of 2022 to close the chapter on high school and take the next steps in their journey. I wish each everyone the best in future endeavors. It has been an honor to build relationships with many amazing young men and women. Graduation is on the 4th of June at 1 PM on the SHS football field. We will also be streaming the event on YouTube. Here is the link to share with family and friends who cannot attend. Please be aware that the remainder of Wednesday this month will not be an early release. Our local fire department has a camp opportunity for female students. It is provided in cooperation with Portland Fire. Here is the link for any interested in this fantastic opportunity. Please see below for Senior events and a recap of athletics from this Spring.
Have a great week!

Athletic Announcements
Our spring seasons wrapped up this week to bring to a close our final year competing in the Northwest Conference (NWOC) in 5A. Competing against schools sometimes twice as large as us did not keep us from sending all of our spring sports to the playoffs and populating many all-league teams.
As most of you know, we will be returning to our roots and rejoining the COWAPA - 4A league next fall. League members next year include our neighbors in St. Helens and familiar foes Tillamook, Astoria, and Seaside. Milwaukie will also join the COWAPA for football only.
Uniforms: Please turn in any uniforms to your coach if you have not done so already. Place all issued gear in a bag with your name on it so we can complete our inventory.
Tennis: Junior Sydney Liao gained fantastic experience competing in the state championships last week at the Portland Tennis Center. She played two very tough opponents including the #3 seeded player in the state to wrap up her season.
Track: The track team competed in the multi-million dollar, newly renovated Hayward Field last Friday and Saturday. The following made the trip down to compete at this year’s OSAA State Championships and landed on the podium:
3rd - Colin Stoddard - Pole Vault - 13’6”
5th - Alice Davidson - 200m - 26.56 (PR)
6th - Peyton Lennox - 400m - 1:01.37
6th - Boy’s 400m Relay - 44.13
Aiden Patterson
Colin Stoddard

Safe and Sober News
Parents,
‼ GRAD PARTY PERMISSION SLIPS ‼ -We have only received about 20 permission slips so far from our Seniors. We’ve included it here, but your seniors can also pick them up in the office. Please have your seniors turn these into the office ASAP as it helps with headcounts and planning. Also, even if your student is 18 or older, a parent or legal guardian must still sign the permission slip. Your student will be receiving more information about what to expect and what they can bring to the party closer to the event.
‼ STUDENT/PARENT PARTY LETTER ‼ -Please see the student/parent letter about what to expect from the party here.
Attendance Matters
Attendance really matters! We want your student to be here and on time. So, how many absences are needed for a student to be considered truant?
Exceeding five days absent, either excused and/or unexcused, in a three-month period may be a truancy violation.
Unexcused absences are a child safety issue. Someone should always know where the child is. Oregon state law says an equivalent of four unexcused days in a month may also be a truancy violation.
Days specifically excused by doctor’s notes are excluded from any count. The program is intended to be as flexible as each school wishes. The school staff may take into consideration the student’s school performance when determining necessary intervention.
What happens when a student is sent to truancy?
A truancy officer will visit with the parent or guardian at the student’s home. The officer will evaluate living conditions that could affect attendance and inform parents or guardians of the Oregon Compulsory School Attendance Law 39.010. The officer will give the parent or guardian a compliance notice to sign and return to the school. This initial step often improves student attendance without further contact.
Tardy Policy
Excessive tardies will be turned over to the administration for disciplinary action.
Tardy # 1: three unexcused tardies in any one class in one semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 2: any tardy from any other class in the same semester. Result is after school detention.
Tardy # 3: the next tardy from any class in the same semester. Result is Saturday School.
Unexcused absences will result in In School Suspension.
