A weekly update from the West Bloomfield School District

WBSD Weekly Update - Nov. 25

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Break, Team WB. Take this time to rest, relax, recharge and reflect on all of the tremendous accomplishments we have had this school year. We know this year has been far from ideal but we are grateful to be on this journey with each and every single member of Team WB.

Please find information regarding the Second Semester Commitment form linked below. Every family must respond to this form by Monday, Nov. 30 at 12 p.m.

Thanksgiving Message - Dr. Hill

Remote Learning Extended - Nov. 30 - Jan. 15, 2021

Due to the significant increase in positivity rate and prevalence of COVID-19 in Oakland County (Risk Level "E" - Highest Risk category) and the presence of active COVID-19 cases in our schools, the West Bloomfield School District will remain in a totally remote instruction model for all students now through January 15, 2021. During this period of time, our buildings will be CLOSED.

The extension of our current remote learning plans will take us from Thanksgiving Break to Winter Break, a time in which COVID-19 spread will likely continue. Conditions permitting, we plan to return to our current hybrid instruction model in grades K-8 , Special Education and Oakland Early College on January 19, 2021. West Bloomfield High School and Lakers Online will remain totally remote during this time period.

C2C Return to Learn Update Webinar - Responses Needed!

Last week, we hosted a C2C Return to Learn webinar regarding instruction during the second semester through the end of the 2020-21 school year. Resources from the night’s presentation are listed below:

Larkin appointed as Head of School at OEC

After a comprehensive and rigorous search process, the West Bloomfield School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Ashleigh Larkin as the new Oakland Early College Head of School. The announcement comes following the November 23 Board of Education meeting where Ms. Larkin was approved for the position by the West Bloomfield Board of Education. Ms. Larkin will assume her new responsibilities and position effective December 7.

Read more about Ms. Larkin's appointment and her career successes on the district website.

School Efficiency Study - Meeting Announcement

The West Bloomfield School District (WBSD) Board and administration seek to ensure student and community needs are met while also being efficient. The District has undertaken an efficiency study during the fall that has identified potential opportunities for needed operational savings. The District has operated its five elementary schools with room for about 30% more students than are enrolled and the District has central operations that are spread among multiple locations.

A steering committee appointed by the Board is considering recommendations that might result in a consolidation from five elementary schools to four and changes in the location of central services. These options were also identified during the district’s 2012 SEAF process. Changes at the middle and high school level are not proposed.

The District invites you to participate in a virtual parent presentation addressing the data that supports eventual action and refers participants to a survey that collects your perspective on specific scenarios. The virtual meetings will be hosted by the District’s planning consultant, Western Demographics, via Zoom, at the times designated below.
