Creating Classroom Culture
FMS finds ways to promote high expectations for students
Quality Questioning at FMS
We have been learning a lot about Think Time 1 and Think Time 2. Usually, we think of this in a whole class setting. However, the below video is a great example of Mr. Morris using questioning in a 1-1 setting. Too often, we are tempted to get in a hurry and "help" our students too much. However, Mr. Morris demonstrates by:
- Allowing the student to think about what he is saying
- Mr. Morris listens to understand the thinking behind the student response, then
- Poses a follow-up question to the student
- The student then revisits his own thinking

Explicit instruction
Mr. Butler is introducing theatre students to the Laban method. In doing so, they are learning vocabulary for 8 efforts: wring, press, flick, dab glide float, punch & slash
Student makes a connection
"So each one of them can have an attitude behind them, right?"
Cross curricular
As Mr. Butler teaches these theatrical techniques, he is tying what they are learning to their understanding of inference in reading.
Making a Real-World Connection
When teaching World History to 1500, it can be difficult to make a real-world connection that is relevant to modern day students! Ms. Dennison uses technology that engages today's students -- Instagram-- to help them generate visual images that will help them learn more about the time period they are studying.
