The Sun
come and explore
information on the sun
........
the sun is the center of the Solar System and the source of all life and energy here on Earth.
The Layers of the Sun
Core
the core is the sun`s energy source. will the enormous amount of heat it is producing it creates plasma and nuclear reaction.
the core is filled with highly compact hydrogen atoms.
Radiation Zone
this layer is cooler than the core
this layer is not as dense like the core but it is still so dense that light from the core bounces around taking about 100,000 years to move through.
Convection Zone
when the hot bubble gas rises up to the surface, it causes the rising and the falling of the granules, a granules is a convective cell that is hotter than its surroundings and can last for a few minutes.
Photosphere
is the deepest layer of the sun that we can observe directly.
the coolest part of the sun. its temp can only go up to 6000 C.
there are sunspots here that can last an hour or even months.
Chromosphere
this layer has a red appearance and its about 2000km
temp is between 6000 Celsius - 50,000 Celsius.
its a hydrogen layer and has a jagged edges that look like flames coming out.
Corona
its the outer layer of the sun, only can be seen if the sun is blocked except during a solar eclipse, or with the use of a coronagraph.
the temp in the corona is 500,000 K
Its getting hotter in here !!!
what are Sunspots ??????
sunspots are darker, cooler areas on the surface of the sun in a region called the photosphere.
they are very large, they are caused by interactions with the Sun`s magnetic field which are not fully understood.
Prominence
is an arc of gas that erupts from the surface of the Sun. Prominence's can loop hundreds of thousands of miles into space.
Flare
is a magnetic storm on the sun which appears to be very bright spot and gaseous surface eruption.
Aurora
are one of such effects which speed out from the sun both in steady stream called the solar wind due to faint eruptions known as coronal mass ejections.
