A MESSAGE FROM MR. LUCITA
Dear Jaguar Band Families,
This will be an exciting week for our Jaguar Band! Not only has this week been adjusted to be “Up and Coming”, it is also the first and only game where we get to see another band! Here is a quick run down of the week ahead!
Monday evening we will continue to expand our drill and create more movement for our halftime performance. It is mandatory that everyone is at every practice. If you are not there at rehearsal, you will not know what we are doing. A student absence not only impacts the student that is not there but drastically impacts those students that march near them. Due to this factor, absences will keep students from marching at the game.
Wednesday is the Jaguar Jamboree in Jaguar Stadium at 7 p.m.! We will wear our Gold Band shirts for this event! Since we will be outside and it is now getting cooler, we will switch to jeans instead of our khaki shorts. You may also wear a jacket over your band shirt. Students need to be in block on the band practice field at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday. This will allow us the opportunity to warm-up and then move as a group to the stadium for the Jamboree! Your Jaguar-issued face mask is required! A detailed schedule of the event for all organizations will be used this week!
This week we will add the JHS Choir to the “JOHNSON: This Is Us” show! They will join us on Thursday’s evening practice! Super excited to add this portion of the show!
Friday night lights!! This week we are playing Lehman HS, and this is our only chance to see another band and also their first and only chance to see us!! Let’s make it awesome! As stated early in the season, once we switch to jeans they need to be “blue” jeans. The color blue should be on the dark side; however, we do understand that there are various shades of dark blue. NO holes or rips in the jeans. Please do not show up with the wrong attire as this will impact your ability to perform. We are also going to pass out the black long sleeve undershirt that is part of our official Jaguar Marching Band Uniform. This will give every student the same long sleeve shirt to wear under their gold shirt. We can wear jackets during the game; however, during halftime we will only wear the gold shirt and the black long sleeve shirt under.
Last but not least a few deadlines are approaching or just passed.
- All student videos were due last week. We will now start the compilation process to get our video produced!
- The window to order your Jaguar Band Jacket closed on Friday! They are scheduled to arrive before the Thanksgiving break.
- Region/Area/All State Auditions are rapidly approaching! All students who are attending have been registered. You know if you were registered. Make time to practice your etudes!!
- Although this is the last item mentioned, it is the most important one of them all: GRADES!!!! Next Friday (Nov 6) is the end of the 9 weeks and you must be passing ALL of your classes at that time. If you fail any class, you will lose your eligibility. This will put you ineligible and out for the remainder of the football games.
I know this was a lot of information, but there is a lot going on!!! It’s going to be an awesome week and “Let’s Go Jags”!
Have a great week,
Mr. Lucita

Other things you will want to know to be ready for this week!

Sign Up to Sell Spirit Gear at Games
We need volunteers to help sell our Johnson Swag during football games. With limited fundraising opportunities due to COVID, selling at games is a great opportunity for us to raise funds that can help support the Jaguar Band.
You will be working with someone who is in charge of the cash box and who knows what to do. The only requirements are that you bring a fully charged cell phone and have the Square App on your phone so that you can charge customers. Please know that the Spirit Gear table is open for as long as you are busy/selling items. For the first game, we sold right through until the game ended, but for the second game, we closed down during the 4th quarter.
Email Carmen Sifuentes at vpfundraising@johnsonbands.com if you have any questions.
Rookie Corner
October 30 "UPCO"
Johnson High School is only in its second year, so we don't yet have any graduates. This means we don't yet celebrate a Homecoming weekend. However, we DO celebrate an "Up & Coming". Band and Color Guard members may wear small mums to the game; however, they may not be pinned or attached to their uniforms. Around-the-neck mums work well. Mums also may not be worn during the halftime performance. October 23 will be our 2020 Up & Coming game, so check Facebook and JHS school newsletters for more information!
Volunteer !
You don't have to be a "veteran" member to volunteer for a committee! In fact, with such a young band, it is important that rookie parents step into roles early - just like our students are having to do! We will start preparing for the 2021 marching season this Spring, so please know that we will be reaching out via email soon! Or better yet, let us know if you have any particular interests by filling out our Committee Interest Form!
Communications
The band directors and boosters primarily rely on Charms to communicate information. Make sure your information is up to date in Charms. Reminder that the Jaguar Band school code is: JohnsonJaguarBand
Football Program Ads: Celebrate your student! Promote your business! It's not too late!!
Missed the deadline to submit your celebration ad? Well, it's not too late! We are still taking orders for FOOTBALL PROGRAM ADS and ask all of our band families to share this information with friends and acquaintances. Ads submitted before the next printing deadline (generally Fridays) will be included in the next weeks program. For details and templates, click here.
Order a personal ad to celebrate your student in this year's Jaguar football program! These programs are a great keepsake and is open to all Johnson students. Your personal ad will be featured in every home Jaguar football game program published this season! The football programs are also great advertising space for local businesses!

VOLUNTEERS
Please know that we LOVE how many parents are offering to volunteer this year to help with pit crew. Unfortunately, due to COVID and in order to follow district safety regulations, we have been limited to only eight people that can be designated as Pit Crew and receive free admission to the games.
Please know that other parents can assist with any unmet pit crew needs or chaperoning RR breaks but those volunteers must purchase a ticket and will not be able to return to stand seats after assisting. Ticket-holder pit crew or chaperone volunteers must remain with the band.
- All volunteers at Shelton games must purchase a ticket. (*this requirement does not apply to the designated 8 Pit Crew volunteers)
- ALL volunteers will be required to fill out the COVID protocol google doc listed on the athletic booster website on the day they volunteer. This MUST be done for every game.
- All volunteers must wear a mask at all times.
- All pit crew and chaperone volunteers located near the band must wear their issued band volunteer shirt.
- If volunteers arrive during school hours, they will also be required to check-in at the school front office. The front office will verify that volunteers filled out the form.
Pit crew volunteers should contact Clover Clamons at pitcrew@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and to obtain their volunteer shirts
All other volunteers, including chaperones, should contact Ida Musgrove at president@johnsonbands.com to inquire about volunteering and obtain their volunteer shirt.
Watch Live Varsity Games
The band will only perform at "home" games (and the Lehman "away" game). Fans can watch all home and away games at http://vypelive.com/web/team/view?id=6600. Please feel free to share!
Reserved Parking Spots
The South parking lot at Shelton Stadium is a reserved parking lot for Varsity Games. We are selling the reserved parking spots to anyone who might want one. This will guarantee you a spot until kick-off. All information regarding the parking spot is located on our website.
Spirit Wear: online and at football games!
The new hats and spirit gear are now available for order via our website.
We have a soft-style and trucker style hat available along with two new t-shirt designs and an ultra-comfortable long sleeve hoodie shirt. Orders will be available for pick up at JHS on Mondays and this information will be communicated via email.

Band Sponsorships and opportunity to put Student names on trailer!
The Johnson Jaguar Band depends in large part on the fundraising efforts of the Band Boosters. Sponsorships are a very important part of fundraising. Our Sponsorship levels have been updated, and we have a lot of exciting options for businesses AND families! We ask that every family please share this brochure with anyone you know that has a business. We are eager to help promote businesses in our community that support the Jaguar Band! If you would like color copies of our Sponsorship Brochure, we are happy to provide them.

A new addition to our Sponsorship options is the Friends and Family Level. This level offers various options for businesses as well as an option for band families: For $200, you can have your child’s name and graduation year on our band trailer indefinitely with the option to simultaneously add sibling name for an additional $100.
