Mycoplasma Bovis & Pet Day

This is currently very topical and will be discussed at our PTA meeting next week, our Board meeting on the 27th June and at a Taranaki Rural Principal's meeting towards the end of the month. Advice has been, and is being received from a number of sources so an informed decision can be made around the inclusion of calves at our pet day in October. If you have a comment or strong opinion please email me - to have your voice heard in the decision making process.

Max E successfully trialled last week for inclusion in the Central Taranaki Ross Brown rugby team. Congratulations Max and well done to Ethan who also took part in the trial.

Jones Cup

Practices are underway for Jones Cup netball and rugby teams (Yr 5-8 only) each (fine) day from 12-12.30pm. The tournament takes place at Toko on Monday 25th June. Children will leave school just after 9am, by bus (cost $3) and return at the conclusion of the tournament, around 2pm. It will be school as usual for those in Year 1-4.

Crowley Cup

We have three teams entered in Crowley Cup matches on 4th July in Stratford. This is for Year 5 & 6 players. This is played as a whole day tournament in one venue instead of over the 10 weeks of term, travelling to different schools in the region. Children playing rugby must be registered with the TRFU. Any queries see Kelly Whittaker in Ngauruhoe Room (R6).

Year 7 & 8 Rippa Tournament

We have a team entered in the Year 7 & 8 Rippa tournament to be held at the NP Racecourse Wednesday 27th June, postponement day Thursday 28th. Please return permission slips asap. If we do not have enough transport we may have to pull out of the tournament.

Tomorrow children in Ngauruhoe Room will be able to experience the wonders of the night sky inside a large inflatable planetarium. Travel will be by bus at a cost of $3 which will be included on children's accounts. Hopefully we will have some great learning to share as a result next week!

Safe Community Trust

On Monday students from Whio, Ngauruhoe and Ruapehu Rooms were treated to a morning tea of Subway and a cookie as they listened to a presentation focusing on 'Cyberbullying'.

School Uniform Shirts

One free shirt is to be provided to all current students of the school as of this term. This is an extremely generous gesture by the PTA to ensure that we have a smooth transition to the new shirts. Any additional shirts are $35. Payment for these are through the PTA account (not the Board / school account as previously stated). Apologies for any confusion over this. If you have already paid for your extra shirts via internet banking, we will sort it. If you are yet to pay please pay to Ngaere School PTA Account - 15-3951-0390909-00

Invoices will be sent towards the end of the term.

Paid Union Meeting

You may be aware of the nationwide crisis in recruiting and retaining teachers.

While there are many more children coming into the school system, there are not enough new teachers being trained. Urgent and significant changes are needed to ensure that the teaching profession can attract the people it needs and to ensure class sizes do not start to increase.

On Tuesday 26th June, the teachers from this school will be attending a NZEI Te Riu Roa paid union meeting regarding the Kua Tae Te Wā - It’s Time campaign. The campaign aims to free teachers to teach and principals to lead, by getting the additional support and staff that schools need. The meetings will allow our teachers to discuss how the Ministry of Education has responded to changes that the union is seeking.

Our teaching staff are members of NZEI and legally entitled to attend this meeting.

Please arrange to pick your child(ren) up from school between 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Tuesday 26th June. If you are unable to pick your children up then, please advise us so that arrangements can be made for supervision.

I appreciate that this creates some inconvenience for families. However, I encourage you to support your teachers as they strive to achieve the changes which will safeguard quality education for all children and ensure we make teaching an attractive profession for graduates.

PTA Meeting - Wed 20th June 7pm. All welcome.
