The Huffman Commitment
We will work with every student, staff member, and family to develop and maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive learning community. We are committed to continuously improving our professional practices and take responsibility for the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student. We believe all people can grow in a positive direction.
Principal's Note
I hope this finds you well. I hope you are enjoying the Fall colors. Looks like the leaves won't last much longer.
Today's news is pretty short and sweet with a few repeats. Please find a pdf document below sharing family questions and answers from the past few family surveys. I consulted with health services and operations on a number of questions and passed on a couple of questions that were more geared to the overall district level.
As we plan for the possibility of students returning, I wanted to give you some background knowledge and insight into Huffman's risk mitigation planning. The various departments in ASD including Health Services, Operations, Student Nutrition among others are providing detailed guidance to schools in alignment with CDC risk mitigation strategies. Our school leaderships teams have begun to meet daily to apply that guidance to Huffman specific logistics. I will share detailed procedures with families prior to students returning. All planning is grounded in the CDC guidance around:
- Universal Use of Masks
- Social Distancing
- Hand Washing & Hygiene
- Student Cohorting (classes not co-mingling)
- Protocols for confirmed cases and contact tracing
We are breaking down our planning into the various phases of a school day including:
- Arrival
- Navigating to & from the classroom
- Pods and student gear management
- Hallways
- Restrooms
- In class routines and procedures / including individualized student learning materials
- Lunch
- Recess
- Dismissal
All staff will be trained in all protocols prior to students returning.
ASD leadership continues to monitor our community's Covid data. I encourage you to review ASD's Risk Level Decision Criteria. The decision to bring students back to the building remains a fluid process which considers a number of data points. Dr. Bishop recently discussed the uptick in Covid cases and other decision data points over the past week. She will be sharing an update on the information and decisions in the near future. Regardless if the timetable changes, Huffman will continue to prepare, plan, and communicate.
As always, please feel free to reach out if I can assist in any way.
All the best, Chris
Chris Opitz, principal
