Room 215
Mr. Schmidtbauer's 4th Grade Class
Reading: Letters to Troops
We had the opportunity to write and send Christmas cards to troops stationed in Kuwait. The kids enjoyed spreading holiday cheer, and they brushed up on their friendly letter writing skills.
READ 20 changing to READ 25
Keep encouraging your child to read at least 20 minutes a night. At the start of 3rd quarter, we will begin a 25 minute per night reading goal.
Reading for enjoyment is the best way to build fluency and comprehension.
Math: Estimation, Factors, and Multiples
The students analyzed and made many tables and graphs during our tables and graphing unit. One fun activity we did involved sorting Skittles into different colors and graphing the data. We made another table and graph that represented data taken from student surveys. I have included some pictures of the activities below.
We have moved on to mean, median, mode, and range in math class.
Math Facts
Please continue to have your child practice their math facts daily. Memorization of the math facts is VERY important! All of the practice is paying off!
Labels Contest
Our class collected the most labels during our school-wide label contest. To celebrate, we will be having a pizza party on Thursday, January 7th. Thank you for sending in so many labels! The money received goes directly into our student activity fund to be used for field trips and other fun events.
Spelling and Language Arts
Keep studying spelling words nightly!
Hour Of Code
Students enjoyed learning how to create code for computer programs while taking part in the Hour of Code week. Schools all over the nation took part in coding; it is an important skill to introduce to the students, because we are definitely living in a digital society.
