Mrs. Embretson, September 3
Week at a glance....
Writing: We are learning how to listen carefully to the sounds in words we want to write. It is appropriate for children at this age to be writing the letters for the sounds that they hear and not worrying about the true spelling of a word. As students drew pictures this week, I encouraged them to name something in their picture and try to write the first letter they heard.
Small Groups: I introduced the Listening station. In this station children will be listening to stories on CD. They learned how to use the earphones and CD player. We practiced rotating between silent reading, word work, and listening stations.
Math: We focused more on the numbers 6-10 this week and noticed these numbers all have a group of five and some extra ones.
Social Studies/Science/Health: ROAR stands for Respectful, Outstanding leaders who are Always safe and Responsible. This week we spent a lot of time learning about responsibility.
