Why ACT - Click Here

State law requires districts and community schools to administer the state-funded ACT or SAT to all grade 11 students in the spring of the school year. Our testing date is February 20, 2019. We will have all our Juniors test in the High School gymnasium on Wednesday, February 20th. Please see the links below to for more information.

Otsego will provide very basic calculators for students to use. If they want to bring their own calculator they are welcome to do so. However, they will be required to check it in on the testing date and will have clear all data from their calculators before testing begins. (Proctors will do this). Make sure you check out the link below to ensure your child's calculator is allowed for testing.

Juniors will complete all the NON-TEST portions of the ACT during Success Period next week.

Otsego Endowment

The Otsego Endowment Foundation is looking for actively engaged people who care about our school system and want to make a difference. We are working on a new and exciting event to raise money for innovative school initiatives. In the recent past, we have funded extraordinary projects like the Robotics Lab, STEM Curricula materials for the elementary, the Community Garden, reading and language arts materials, drones, virtual reality equipment and more, providing $168,472 in funding for school initiatives, and $14,000 in education awards to graduating seniors since 2012. We want to continue to grow the foundation so that we can continue to provide stimulating opportunities that elevate the education of our students where the school budget is unable to do so. We hope to launch a new fundraising event that will engage more people in the community. We need your help to do so! Please consider getting engaged with our group. We meet the second Monday of the month in the high school library at 6:30 pm, eight times a year. We are using our March meeting as a launching pad for event planning and new members. Won’t you consider coming and seeing how you can make a difference for our kids?

Support Our Student Team

This year, several Otsego students and parents are participating in The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Student of the Year friendly fundraising competition between students across Northwest Ohio. Madison Dzierwa and Mackenzie Gallagher lead one of the 6 area teams. Their team is called Madison and Mackenzie’s Miracle Makers. The team consists of: Will Gase, Monty Alexander, Kaitlyn and Jessica Makowski, Janell Hartman, and others. They are trying to raise the most dollars now until March 8th.

Please consider supporting by making a donation to their team link: https://events.lls.org/noh/ToledoSOY19/tmadisonma. Thank you for helping us make a difference to fight blood cancers. Let’s make Otsego shine in this friendly competition!

Success Period Presentation Sign Ups

We are excited to offer new and innovative experiences for our junior high and high school students. We are inviting professionals such as yourself to come interact with our students as an opportunity to engage them in real-world work experiences through the eyes of an expert. This will be a forty minute experience for our students in which you can present information that would be beneficial as they begin to explore their career options. Things to consider during the presentation would be educational requirements, expectations as they enter the workforce, experiences they can anticipate in your career field. What we are aiming for are real conversations between working adults and our students.

We are so excited to share our students with you so that you might be able to inspire a few and not only educate students about their career interests but to also maybe inspire them to follow your career path!

We want to give our students an idea of what your job entails, but also to tell them how you got to where you are. What the future job market looks like? What certifications and credentials are needed? I have included below a list of suggested essential questions that can be used to guide your discussions but please do not think that you are limited to these.

Sample questions that may be asked by students:

  1. Describe your typical workday and workweek. Is it 40 hours? More?

  2. What skills are most important to you in your work?

  3. What interests did you have which led you to this field of work?

  4. What education, training, certification, licensure, advanced degrees or credentials do you need to do your work?

  5. What employment path did you take that led you to where you are now?

  6. What is the employment outlook for your line of work?

  7. What challenges do you face in your work?

We have put a calendar together for you to choose a date that works best for you. You may choose to talk to Junior High Students (grades 6-8) or High School Students (grades 9-12). Simply click on the building below that you would like to share your experiences with and select a date that fits in your schedule. You will enter in the front of the High School and someone from the office will walk you down to the room.

As many of you may remember we have the "Pay it Forward" account which is to keep students from receiving an alternate meal. At this point, the account is nearing zero. If you are interested in donating to the Pay It Forward program please contact Jeanne Jeffers, jjeffers@otsegoknights.org or Adam Koch, akoch@otsegoknights.org. Student Council

Knight in Shining Armour

Please use the following form to inform OHS Student Council about a family in need within the school district. While the family does not need to have students in the district, we do ask that they are a member of the Otsego Community. Use this form to share information about their current situation as well as how they can best be assisted.

Please be sure to understand that while Knight in Shining Armor (KISA) would love to help all community members in need, we are still a new program, and may not have the funds to do so. With that being said, we will consider each request on a case by case basis. Filling this form out does not guarantee that we will be able to assist the family, but we will try our hardest to do so!

Here are some things that we have done with KISA funds:

  • School supplies were purchased for multiple families.
  • Gas money has been provided to get to and from medical treatment.
  • Food cards have been provided to help families afford meals while going through medical treatment.
  • Cash donations have been made to families to help assist in paying bills during medical treatment.
  • Gift cards and supplies have been provided to help make ends meet after housing emergencies have occurred.

We now have TWO ways that you can nominate a family in need. Bookmark the link below to use as the need arises. You can also find this link on the Otsegoknights.org webpage under the "District" tab.

Please do not hesitate to nominate a family in need, and KISA will do their best to help out!
