Hello Foster Families

Hello Foster Families,

One year ago this week I sent my first email out to you as the new principal. It has been a wonderful year and I am so excited to be getting ready to open the school for the 2023-2024 school year. On July 18th, we had our first School Building Committee meeting in a month and I wanted to give you an update on the status of the project, as well as an upcoming principal event for our incoming kindergarten students and the time for our walk your child to the classroom event.

The building project is coming along and is still on target for opening in September of 2024. The two retaining walls are expected to be completed on August 18. The beginning placement of the footings for the foundation are being built as I write this letter. The ceremonial ground breaking will be taking place on August 25. All of this is very exciting and reason to celebrate. Another reason to celebrate is that the geothermal heating has been put back into the plan. This is great news for the future of the building and an a more environmentally friendly system. It is also going to have an impact on Foster for next year: we no longer have the drop off loop outside of the kindergarten as a result of the geothermal well field. I met with the project managers, the Hingham Police, our Transportation Director, Facilities Director, and our Superintendent, Dr. Adams. We have come up with a plan to implement a new drop off pattern for the front of the school. We are now working with the contractor to finalize the work that will need to happen. Once we have the plan formalized and approved, I will be communicating it to you, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

Like last year, I anticipate the class lists being sent home on, or about, the third week in August. This is the perfect opportunity to remind you to make sure you have access to the family portal. We will be using the portal more an more as the year progresses. There was information communicated about this in the April's newsletter. Aspen Family Portal

To assist families in monitoring children’s progress, enhance communication with families, and further promote the academic progress of all of our students, the Hingham Public Schools is pleased to provide access to student records through the Aspen X2 Family Portal for grades K-12. Please check your email on May 3rd for the username and password and information on how to log in.

My absolute favorite summer event is coming just before the start of school: our second annual "Popsicles with the Principal" event to welcome our incoming kindergarten students is tentatively scheduled for August 28 @ 1PM. More information will be coming in a few weeks.

Finally, we are planning on the annual walk your child to the classroom event on August 31 from 1:45-2:30. It is coming quick!
