Butler Creek Bulletin
October 8th
Notes from Principal Laura Fendall
It was great to see so many families at our Back to School Night on September 27th--a big thank you to the PTA for supporting this event with food trucks, free snacks, decorations and a photo booth! The BC PTA is a wonderful team who works hard to support our school with opportunities for students and teachers. Please consider joining our PTA and becoming a volunteer at Butler Creek. We need everyone's help in making out school community strong.
And they're off! Our 6th grade classes left for a week at Outdoor School on Sunday, October 6th. This is the second year all schools were fully funded to offer Outdoor School to all 6th graders. Our classes will be at camps in Welches, Canby and Corbett.
Please join us for the monthly Butler Creek PTA meeting on Wednesday, October 9th from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the library.
Talented and Gifted Program Information
Butler Creek is currently accepting parent/teacher nominations of students for testing to determine eligibility for Talented and Gifted identification. Nomination forms are available in the school office. The deadline for returning the forms is November 21st. Please let us know if you have questions.
Student Illness
We are already experiencing a high number of students who are absent due to illness or students coming to the office with cold and flu symptoms. If your child is sick, make sure they are free of a fever and other symptoms for at least 24 hours before returning them to school. This helps prevent the spread of illness for students and staff. Please call our Absence Line number to report any absences from school. The number is 503-762-6111.
LOST and FOUND!!
Our lost and found is already overflowing with jackets, sweatshirts, lunch boxes, backpacks, etc..
If you are missing an item, please take a look!
Traffic Challenges
We are experiencing big challenges with our traffic flow during arrival and pick up, as well as at the 4 way stop at Butler Rd.. Butler Creek has over 600 students this year. It's going to take time to move all of the cars, buses, day care vans and children in and out of school at the peak times. It's important that we all work together to make this safe for everyone. And, we need to be role models for our children by showing patience and respect during these hectic times of the day. There are going to be times of very slow to completely stopped traffic.
Here are some important reminders about expectations for traffic:
- Please stay in the lane near the curb and do not drop off or pick up your child in the parking lot.
- Pull up to the "Stop" area before dropping off/picking up your child
- Have your child/children ready with their belongings to get out of the car when it is your turn
- Stay in your car in the drop off/pick up lane
- Park in designated spots only.
- Handicapped spots may only be used by cars displaying a permit in their windshield.
Thanks for everyone's help in making Butler Creek a safe place for children and drivers before and after school.
Early Pick Up
We are experiencing an increase in parents asking to pick up their students just before the end of the school day. This presents many challenges for the office, teachers and traffic outside. At the end of the day, school and office staff are busy focusing on preparing students to go home. We also have classes who are in the library, music and PE right up until the bell rings at 2:27pm. We are not able to accommodate requests for pick up after 2:00pm. Thank you for understanding.
Butler Creek PTA Jog-a-Thon is Coming, October 16th!
The annual jog-a-thon is right round the corner. This is an important fundraiser for our PTA. Please consider supporting this event by helping your child seek pledges. Look for detailed information from the PTA. If you are interested in volunteering, contact the PTA.
Best to you and your families,
Laura
