April 2019 Newlsetter
A Message From The Board of Directors
I’m not fooling around when I say, April 1st is like New Years Day and New Years Day is like April 1st. You see, we often fool ourselves with “New Year resolutions” that by now are long dead. Honestly, who really comes out of hibernation before April anyway? I just said hello to my next door neighbor for the first time in 4 months! Isn’t April the time we are more likely to put into action things that will make lasting, meaningful change? Maybe it’s something about the thawing of the old and the new hope that comes from the warmth of Spring. Both figuratively and literally, now is the time to plant.
We plant so that we can harvest. And like a harvest, good things come to those who prepare and persevere with patience. Choose to invest now in your business, in your family and in your community. We live in fertile times. Unemployment (3.8%) is at a 50 year low because almost 21 million new jobs have been created since February 2010. Inflation is at 2.1% which is well below the 50 year average 4.0%. Interest rates are holding near historic lows. Economic growth has been positive for 10 years; corporate profits at 10% (Q4 ’18); Household net worth at record levels and household debt (as % of disposable income) at 40 year lows. Put a smile on your face! Now is the time to put into action the plans you have.
Take another look around our community. Have you noticed all the new construction and new businesses? Membership growth in our Chisago Lakes Chamber is robust! Looking for more inspiration? Be sure to prioritize and attend the April 11th Chamber Luncheon at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation. You’ll be treated to a great meal, a healthy group of optimistic people, and an engaging presentation on how a new local grass-roots initiative is bringing together multiple community organizations (the Chamber, the Library, the Community Center, and Local non-profits) in a novel way to make our community stronger for the future.
Who you are matters. What you do matters. Hibernation is over! Your plan is waiting for you and so are we!
