A Message From Our Principal
Our second and fourth graders did a wonderful job with their music performance on November 17! Our students were very excited to perform and did a great job. I want to thank Mr. McCurley for his hard work to prepare and organize this event!
We are excited to share that our school received an Excellent rating on the South Carolina School Report Card and is in the top 15% of all elementary schools in the state of South Carolina! We are proud of our students and staff for this accomplishment and appreciate all of your support for your child's education!
Our new electronic marquee has been ordered and will hopefully be installed over the winter break or soon after. A big thanks to all of you for your support for our Boosterthon Fundraiser which has made this purchase possible. This was one of many items the fundraiser supports.
When winter comes, so do a lot of extra jackets, coats, and sweatshirts to our Lost & Found. You or your child may stop by to take a look if you are missing any items. Any items left at school on December 21 will be donated to Goodwill.
The winter holiday break begins on December 21 at 11:00 am. Students will return on January 7. I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday break! We look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year!
Sincerely,
Peter Olinger, Principal

Be on the lookout for an email from your childs teacher for opportunities to volunteer to help students wrap the gifts.
Notes from the Nurse
The first half of the school year has flown by! I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve in such a wonderful school. The staff, parents, and children have been a pleasure to work with and I have enjoyed meeting and getting to know everyone. I greatly appreciate your cooperation and support as we work together to ensure your child’s health needs are met while at school. I just have a couple of reminders at this time. It is very important for the school to have the most up to date phone numbers available to reach you or an alternate contact should an emergency or need arise. Your child’s safety is our number one priority, so it is very important that someone can be reached. You can update any phone numbers by contacting the front office. Also, please remember your child should be fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication before returning to school after an illness. By abiding by this it will give your child proper time to recuperate and help keep their fellow classmates and teachers healthy as well. Winter break is quickly approaching and is such a great time for spending time together, as a family, and making memories that will last a lifetime. I hope everyone has a fun, safe and healthy rest of 2018!

Tis the SEASON… to be READING!!! And we have LOTS of great books in the library for your student to read! Please remind your students to return their books each library period so they can get new ones. The library continues to collect the following: new/old greeting cards (for bookmarks), new/old books from your shelves that might be collecting dust!, starburst candy and 24 and 100 piece puzzles. Thanks so much for your support! Until next time, read read read! LOL
Technology:
Wow, it is December already. For the month of December all students will be using the Hour of Code website to experience coding and computer programming. The link to this website is https://code.org/learn if your child wants to practice at home during the break. I am also sending home a letter for third – fifth graders about Typing Agent. I encourage all families to take advantage of the online program to teach students touch typing. They have all been exposed to the program and should know how to log in. Keyboarding is a very important skill and there is not time in school to truly master it. If you have any questions about technology please feel free to contact me. Happy holidays to all our families. I sincerely wish you all peace with the new year. Mrs. Cageao
PE:
In PE, we will be talking about our health initiative this year, Healthy Together!
Healthy Together is an initiative that helps schools and other community programs improve upon their healthy food choices and physical activity opportunities. This program utilizes the 5-2-1-0 principles which makes it easy to incorporate healthy habits into your busy day!
5=Servings of fruits and veggies a day
2=2 hours or LESS of recreational screen time a day
1=One hour or MORE of physical activity a day
0=ZERO sugary drinks a day
This is what we are striving for each family to accomplish each day here at Springfield Elementary School! If you need any help with ideas, here are a few websites to point you in the right direction!
