Message From The Principal
Dear Parents & Carers,
Welcome Back to Term 4!
As we begin the final school term for 2023, we look forward to working in partnership with you to provide the best possible learning experiences for the children in our care so that they can grow as individuals and reach their God-given potential.
Returning to school this week after long service leave, I was struck by how beautiful and well-cared-for the grounds look. This is thanks to the attention to detail given by our ground’s person, Mr Neville Hogan.
Over the holidays, several improvements and maintenance issues were attended to:
· Speed humps and parking bump stops were installed in the top carpark to further ensure the safety of our children and families.
· Parking and pickup area was line marked.
· South side of Year 3 and 4 classrooms pressure cleaned.
· Kindy shade sail repaired and installed.
· New external security lights installed around the library.
· Air conditioning systems serviced.
· Pathway to Performing Arts coated with an anti-slip.
· Art and Music room external walls and windows pressure cleaned.
· All grass areas aerated and fertilised.
The Telethon, Speech & Hearing outpost has been an integral part of St Luke’s since the school began in 1987. Students and staff are all encouraged to wear their loudest, brightest crazy socks tomorrow to raise awareness for those in our community with hearing loss and make a donation to support the cause.
Please keep our Year 3 students and their families in your thoughts and prayers as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Penance later in the term.
Term 4 is packed with lots of events for all in our community. We look forward to seeing you in and around the school over the coming weeks, whether it be at the Talent Show, St Luke’s Feast Day, Sacramental workshops, sporting events, Graduation, ACM or the Christmas Concert.

Message from the Assistant Principals
NAPLAN
Children in Years 3 and 5 completed the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) in Term 1, 2023. NAPLAN provides nationally comparable evidence about student achievement. At a school level, the data is used to see whether students are reaching important educational goals and to inform future curriculum planning.
This year, NAPLAN was an adaptive test that automatically adapted student test performance to ask questions that match the student’s achievement level. As this was the first year that NAPLAN was adaptive, we cannot accurately compare data with previous years. We can compare our school's mean scaled scores to CEWA, State and National results.
Please see the table below:

Our results this year are positive, with Year 3 performing above CEWA, State and National results in all areas assessed in NAPLAN.
Year 5 also performed well this year. We were above the CEWA, State and National results in Reading, Writing and Spelling. The only areas we fell slightly short on were in Grammar and Numeracy.
As a school we have analysed the data to drive future planning here at St Luke's.
All Souls' Day
All Souls' Day is a holy day within the Church, set aside for honouring those who have passed away into eternal life. This year at St Luke's, we invite families to attend a liturgy to commemorate those who have passed away. Father Stan will guide the liturgy on Thursday 2nd November at 10:00am. You will also have the opportunity to dedicate a butterfly to place on our memorial wall. The liturgy will be followed by morning tea.
If you would like to attend the liturgy and morning tea, please send an email to kristy.graffin@cewa.edu.au with the following details:
1. Name/s of people attending liturgy
2. Name/s of children attending liturgy (if you would like them to attend)
3. Name of your loved one that you would like to dedicate a butterfly to
Please reply by Friday 20th October; we look forward to a special morning together.

Basketball Champions!
Congratulations to the Year 6 Saints basketball team, who won their final over the holidays.
They played in Division 1 and beat the top of the ladder team, who had gone undefeated the whole season. It came down to a free shot at the end of the game, with Leo taking the shot and scoring the winning point. The team will continue to play together over the summer season into 2024. Well done, boys!
If you have any good news stories about our students that you would like to share with the community, please send any photos and a short blurb to natalie.vennitti@cewa.edu.au

YOUTH GROUP REPORT
Last week at 24:7 Woodvale youth group we had an awesome night as we had our combined event with 24:7 Whitfords youth group. The night was themed asking everyone to dress as their favourite movie character. All the youth got involved in the fun with their costumes! We started the night with some games and then had a catwalk for everyone to show off their costume. One of the students who was dressed up as Snow White won best dressed. We then had fellowship time to close up the night. Overall, it was an amazing night!
NEXT YOUTH GROUP
Our next youth group will be on 13th October, and we cannot wait to get back into the swing of things to begin term 4!
God Bless,
