Graphic Novel Circulation
Graphic Novels are popular with the students and their circulation continues to increase yearly.
Benefits of Graphic Novels:
- Graphic novels can be a way to motivate reluctant readers to read who are difficult to reach with traditional texts.
- Graphic novels can help improve the reading skills of students struggling with language acquisition such as ESL or special needs students.
- “They require readers to be actively engaged in the process of decoding and comprehending a range of literary devices, including narrative structures, metaphor and symbolism, point of view, and the use of puns and alliteration, intertextuality, and inference.”

Spanish and Bilingual Books Circulation
Collaboration
Elementary
K-6th grades:
Pulled materials for lesson plans from school and public libraries, reinforced core curriculum during weekly library time, did in-class presentations on certain genres and made suggestions for materials. Pulled materials to correspond with the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Kids. This year we focused on the theme of Nonfiction and students received in-depth lessons about the Dewey Decimal System. The 5th and 6th grade classes were also taught about how to use the library catalog and how to find quality websites.
Library Skills Immersion: Once a week story times were done in Spanish to the Spanish immersion classes
Junior High
Posted information about school events on school blog. Assisted teachers with updating their blogs. Gathered materials for teachers to assist with lesson plans and units on: primary source documents, the Industrial Revolution, poetry, creating comic books, the seven habits of highly effective teens, pinata making, fundamentals of art, book reports, etc.
