Chapman Pride!
During the month of September, Chapman hosted many events with the intent to get families involved. As I have attended these events and watched those that participated, it was neat to get to meet new families, watch students interact with their families, and spread some of the neat things that Chapman has to offer. So far, families are participating in rates that we have not seen before. Our September movie night had close to 100 people in attendance, the K-2 sponsored family STEAM night, had over 80 participants, and every home soccer game brings in a sideline of spectators. Chapman staff appreciates this support as these events are designed with families in mind. Family involvement is among the leading indicators for student success. Students feel supported and more comfortable at school when they see their families partnering with school staff and actively enjoying the activities held at the school.
October is full of many more opportunities for families to get involved, if you havenβt been able to attend an event at the school, I encourage you to do so. One of our biggest events of the year is coming up in just a few short weeks. The Chapman Halloween Carnival has become a longstanding tradition for Anchor Point families and families from the surrounding area. While this event is a fun way to spend a fall evening, it represents an incredible amount of work from our Chapmanβs Parent group. This event is their biggest fundraiser of the year and its success is dependent upon families attending and inviting their friends from other communities to attend. I hope to see you there! I am excited to see the amazing costumes and very curious to see which staff members will get that pie in the face!
With October also brings an end to benchmarking assessments. This is exciting as this information helps teachers make sure that they are targeting the specific needs of each of their students. These assessments are also used to inform our intervention program. Should a student score below average, our intervention program is utilized to offer students additional instruction in specific areas that may happen within the classroom or via small group instruction with Mr. Edan, our interventionist. Teachers are working to contact families if their student scored below average and will be communicating a plan to help get that kiddo caught up. Should you have any questions regarding this, you can contact your childβs teacher, Mr. Edan, or myself.
Hope everyone has an excellent October and I look forward to seeing you at School.

Thank you Anchor Point Food Pantry! π
The Anchor Point Food Pantry earned a grant to provide the school with extra snacks and food to send home with students. At this time, they don't quite have enough funds to provide each student with a bag of snacks for the 2 weekends a month that bags are passed out. The Food Pantry is hoping to gain the funds to extend these bags to all students. A similar program has been adopted at Ninilchik School and it has been very successful.

September Highlights
5th Grade Anchor River Field Trip
On September 7th, the 5th grade class went on a field trip with Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies down to the Anchor River. They walked along the Anchor River and through the campgrounds collecting trash. They collected over 8.5 pounds of trash! Thankfully all the trash collected ended up in the dumpster, instead of the river and ocean. Way to go 5th grade! You did an excellent job helping to keep our river and ocean a healthy habitat!

6th to 8th Grade Service Learning Project
The 6-8 graders went to Fireweed Meadows golf course on Wednesday 9/13 from 12-2pm for a service learning project. Activities included cutting lower branches on trees in the fairways, hauling and stacking brush, picking up garbage, and collecting lost golf balls. This was a great opportunity for Chapman to show our appreciation to Fireweed Meadows for allowing our students to use their facility for electives and school sports including disc golf, mountain biking, cross country, skiing, ice skating, and nature walks.
