Grades
This is the end of the first progress report. The students have had a few writing assignments and they may be in shock over their grades. Please do not worry. They have never written on a collegiate level before and I will work with them in improving their essays. Writing is a focus for our school and is a skill many colleges are finding is lacking with incoming students. While I grade according to collegiate expectations, by the time the report card comes there will be many more daily grades to minimize the impact.
Also, to make the district gradebook match the college gradebook, daily assignments and quizzes count twice. Once in the quiz category for 20% and once in the homework category for 10%. This will make it match the college guideline of 30%
Schoology
Thank you to those who have emailed me for a schoology code. Please email me if you do not have yours yet. I will also send you the remind 101 codes you need for the school and my class. Schoology will allow you to keep up with your student's work as well as see all school events.
This week
This week we will continue work on our copyright project. This will count for three test grades (one is the presentation, one is content covered, and one is collaborative skills). We will have check points along the way. Please talk to your student about their project and how it is progressing.
New Schedule
This week will begin the new bell schedule for Waxahachie Global High School. If your student arrives before 8 am, they need to sign in at the gym and then they may be released at 3:15 (unless they need to stay later). If they arrive after 8 am, they will stay in study hall or tutoring until 3:45. This is a positive step for the school as it will ensure that we continue to have assistance for the students as needed.
Dress Code
Please remember as part of the WISD dress code policy, students must wear their IDs between their shoulders and their waists. The ID must be visible at all time. Please encourage them to wear it. We cover too much in all of our classes for them to miss for dress code issues.
Thank you
As always, I am really enjoying having your child this year. The students are very inquisitive and they are excited about being at Global! Thank you for sharing them with me!
